Not sure how you have made it, but I cut it in half and place it cut side down in a microwave dish with about 1/2 " of water until tender. Then I use a fork to pull the strands out, mix it with butter and parmesan cheese.
I roast it face down on a baking sheet at 350° for 45-60 minutes, until a knife pierces it easily. Then I toast maybe 1/4 c of small walnut pieces in a saute pan, toss in a half cube of butter and brown it just a bit, then toss the shredded squash in it and salt & pepper to taste.
