How do you clean your black stove tops?

After seeing the thread on stainless steel, I thought I would ask about a black stovetop. It never looks clean! I have no problems with the black dishwasher and refrigerator just the stove top. Suggestions? It's a gas stove.

I use an environmental friendly cleaner (read: no phosphates, etc.) and one of those microfiber towels. This one is specifically for glass and it does not leave streaks or marks like a paper towel or dishtowel. If I have cooked on food, I clean it with soap and water first.

When I had black I would clean w/soap & water and then use the Glass Cleaner from Costco. It comes in a 3 (maybe 4) pack in an aerosol can.

I recently found at Target in their cleaning products special pre-moistened pads that are specifically for cooktops. They seem to work very well for us. You buy the initial "kit" that comes w/ a handheld thing and 5 of the pads. Then you can just buy additional packages of pads as needed. I don't recall the price for the kit, but pretty sure it was under $10.

I have a ceramic black top. I was always leaving streaks, until (after a death in the family) my husbands grandmother cleaned our kitchen to help us out. She used cleaner (the stuff I had made for the stovetop). It had always left streaks for me. Then she used a glass cleaner called "Invisible glass" and wiped it down with a microfiber cloth. Worked like a charm! I still can't seem to get it clean like grandma, but it does a pretty good job for me. (I also can't get my laundry as fresh as my mom used to, why is that?:upsidedow )

Hi,
I use a dishrag dipped in ammonia, then I rinse it at least three times. My stove is going on 9 years, it still looks great.

Vinegar works wonders.I asked a friend and thats what they suggested to me so I tried it and it works great.

I have a glass black stove top and love the product: Bar Keepers Friend

They carry it at Walmart and our grocery stores down the cleaning aisle. It's in a goldish color container.

It has gotten marks off my stove that were there for years when we moved in. I'd never give it up and use it on my pots & pans as well.

I tried this too, but with much different results. It left little scratch patterns in the surface. What am I doing wrong?

I use the cleaner specifically made for the smooth top stoves. They now even have red scrubbers that don't scratch the surface. I can go upstairs and look for the brand name if you want. They sell them at Wal-Mart.

I just squirt it on, scrub (because I'm always boiling stuff over) Then wipe off with paper towels. If I'm trying to get it really shiny they also have a tub of wipes from the same brand and I just wipe one of those over it when I'm done.

I use the same sort of thing. I bought mine at Sears where we got the stove. You only need a little bit, so a bottle lasts a long time. I just wipe it on with a sponge, (scrub the spots where I had a boil-over!), and wipe it off with a clean dish towel or a paper towel. It always looks like new afterwards, and never streaky or scratched.

I also use the stuff for a ceramic top and honestly windex works wonders and leaves it looking great.

I agree. I use the ceramic cleaner. It cleans great, but it never leaves the stove top looking as shiny as I'd like so I finish it off with windex. I have to admit, I take so much better care of my black stove top than I ever did my old white one. It just looks so pretty when it's clean.

I have a newer stainless Gemini range with a black top and I use Fantastic multi surfuce cleaner, works great and leaves the top very shiny!;)

I had a black glass cooktop for years. I tried many different cleaners, but I liked Cinch the best. It's readily available at grocery stores. The secret to getting the streaks out is the cloth you use. Paper towels don't do a very good job, nor does a terry towel. Linen-type dishtowels work the best on any glass surface. Black glass takes a lot of patience and too much time to get the streaks out. Stainless is just as bad.
I recently bought a new cooktop - it's still black, but it's regular porcelain like the stove I had years ago. I love it....and it's sooo easy to clean!

try a microfiber rag and windex works on our black stove

We use windex but it doesnt work as well as we would like.

Going to try some of these tips
