How do you clean the tubs?

Does anyone clean the whirpool tub before using it? What do you use? I definitely want to clean it first, but I don't want to use anything that will mess up the jets.

DVCLady posted this method. I've used it several time with good results:

"I use a cup of bleach and a 1/4 cup of cascade. Fill the tub with hot water, turn it on and pour the bleach and cascade in. Let it run for 15 mins, turn it off and let it soak for 10 mins. Turn it on and run it again for 5 mins. Drain it, then fill it back up and rinse for 10-15 mins.

If you do have black stuff coming out of the jets call housekeeping they will send someone with clorine tablets and clean the jets out. It's really strong stuff. You will have to leave the room while they do it. "

I just fill 'er up, and soak. I've not yet died from the experience, or even contracted a serious illness.

As far as I know, anyway. ;)

Wow, should I be worried? I just used them without cleaning! Do they not clean them?

I am sure they wipe down the tub surface, but they do not do a deep internal cleaning of the Jacuzzi pipes that all the water circulates in before jetting you. These are not hot tubs with an internal spa chlorine reservoir. Thus the above cleaning method.

Cascade & Bleach, we use it on our whirl pool tub at home! Just try not to use any products that bubble, that seriously damages the pipes, not to mention the wall of bubbles that can grow (been there, done that, not as fun as in the movies) Although, there are plenty of people who use bubbles, you really shouldn't.

We do the same but without the cascade -- only the bleach.

Our first stay we bought bleach and did the jets that way. Then we switched to another resort and the black stuff floated out and that was enough for us to NEVER USE AGAIN.:scared1:

Ok since we can't put bleach in our checked luggage, do they sell bleach at the resorts? Or are there some type of tablets we can use?

Our tub was clean. Added water and ran. Not good. We tossed in a clorine puck (we drove and had them), let it run and then had to clean the tub afterwards. It was good after that. I'll always book at least a 1 bedroom because Mom likes the tub. I like the kitchen. We arrive, I clean the tub, start filling it while we unpack and she jumps in.

I read on the boards eons ago to use the dishwashing detergent for the dishwasher to clean the jets. So, in a pinch, that's what I use.

I only use part of the pouch they give you, fill the tub with HOT water, and run the jets for a few minutes. Drain and run jets again with clean, hot water.

I only do this if we are staying more than a few days and will actually be using the jets. Otherwise, we will NOT run the jets at all and will just use the whirlpool as a giant tub that trip.

Where do you get the bleach.. do they supply that as well?
or can you buy it at the resort store?

We have a jetted tub at home, and the manufacturer's instructions recommend using dishwasher detergent. Dishwasher detergent already has bleach in it, so adding additional bleach really isn't necessary. Our instructions say to fill the tub with hot water to at least 3 inches above the jets, put in the detergent, and the run the jets for 20 min, drain the tub, re-fill with cold water, and run for another 20 min to rinse.
