How do you "buy where you want to stay" when AKV has not even opened yet?

This is my toughest decision. we LOVE bcv but being only 30years old, the extra 15 years at AKV could really come into play. But we have never stayed at AK before. But the pics look awesome and it could turn out better than BCV and SAB.

This is such a tough decision.

Is the 15 extra years worth the AKV over BCV

I really cant decide and it is starting to drive me crazy.:furious:

Maybe you need to split your point purchase between the two. :) Thirty years from now you'll not be so thrilled with BCV and wishing you had bought SSR.

Not for us. AKV is too far from the parks IMO. Who knows, they may offer extensions at BCV like they did OKW sometime-just a thought.

I can't wait to see what the Kidani Pool looks like, they are talking it up a lot. Combined with the immersive theming AKV will continue to be my favorite. You really get lost in the whole safari vibe and find yourself stopping to watch animals, stare at the lobby, find a rocking chair and sit in it because it is just there. Some places you feel you have to go somewhere, at AKV I just wander. It is by far my favorite DVC.
BCV will continue to be small and thereby exclusive, and the 11 month window really matters there. AKV will not have problems with availability when Kidani opens, except for the super-exclusive concierge rooms.
I am 36 and DW is 32, and for us, SSR's 12 years was a big deal. It was easy to blow off short term, but we were thinking about our eventual grandkids. 12 years was the deal breaker for us.

From my perspective, it's not worth it if you end up not liking AKV all that much. Relying on 7 month windows to book the resort (BCV) you really want to stay at can be stressful as well as frustrating when it doesn't happen.

Maybe you want to actually stay at AKV before making a decision and see how you feel about the resort. AKV at Jambo House is open currently and you can get a general feel for the theme and amenities that are likely to be at Kidani Village.

Good luck!

It's really not an "either, or" decision. Add ons are a practical way to enjoy home resort advantage at another resort.

This really came into play for us as well. We love BWV and really were considering buying in there, but since my husband and I are both in our late 20's/early 30's we really thought that those extra years would be worth more to us in the end. I know that Disney maybe could offer an add-on, but its not for sure, but you know for sure you'll get the extra years at AKL. We bought at SSR because we love being close to DTD, but if I we hadn't purchased two years ago, I'd be waiting for BLT! You'd get the extra years and the prime real estate!

I guess at this point, it cant hurt to wait a month and see what BLT pricing looks like.....it should be out in July per the rumors. My wife and I are not in love with the Cont now, I know that may be viewed as insane, so I doubt we would purchase thier. Still AKV incentives might go up once BLT is released. Of course all this is speculation

We checked out all the DVC resorts during our last visited and we still like AKV the most. The distance from AK to any parks doesn't bother us since we always get a rental when we go to WDW.

While I can't comment on incentives I don't think failure to like BLT is "insane". If so the asylum is going to be very full. I have seen lots of posts on here going "it's not for me or I don't like it"

All the Black and Chrome does remind me of my old dormitory furniture a lot.
It was cool when I was 19, but its kind cheezy now.

newbie here, what is BLT and SAB?

J
BLT = Bay Lake Tower. Name of the new construction at the Contemporary that most believe will be a DVC resort. There has been no announcement to that effect so far.

SAB = Storm-Along-Bay. Name of the pool complex at the BC/YC/BCV.

There are a number of reasons why I would lean toward AKV for your purchase. The extra years is a big part of that, but also, AKL/AKV is a beautiful destination resort, and I knew when they came out with DVC there I HAD to add on. Maybe buy a minimum contract there and add on at BCV? That will give you the best of both worlds. You could get the 100 point contract at AKV and add on 60 at BCV. With banking and borrowing, you could have home resort advantages at both.
