We are leaving for our first trip Home :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc . I have extra checked baggage room and want to bring some food with us. I am not sure what to pack it in. What does everyone else do..Thanks

We are leaving on Friday morning for Florida and shipping our groceries today. There is only two of us but we are shipping cereal bars, popcorn, fruit snacks, pop tarts, and some other things. The post office has a flat rate box and shipping is $7.70 no matter what the weight is. The pop and water we were planning on getting at the Hess gas station across from PI. It is much cheaper than the parks.

I always pack some water bottles, poptarts, boxed pasta/rice (pasta pronto, pasta roni, ricearoni, etc.), cans of soups, granola bars, favorite cereal, microwaveable oatmeal, ramen noodles, cookies, chips.
I know they're not the most healthy collection, but better than spending a ton of $ on food there... :)
The stuff i bring is usually more than enough for several bfasts, light lunches and dinners in the room on days when I don't feel like getting out of the room... hehe...

I don't think this is very popular anymore with Magical Express, but we still get the towncar service with a grocery stop. Even though ME is free, we still like the service and have to have the stop at the store. We could still pack stuff like you plan to do, but would still need to stop for the case of water, case of beer, and milk, cheese, etc. that we can't pack.

I don't usually cook on vacations, but I take a lot of quick breakfast/snack items. I pack these in an extra suitcase (average size carry on). By the end of the vacation, I have room for souvenirs, etc. Since we drive to WDW (only 2 or 3 folks to consider, this is the easiest way for us to transport food. I also have a cooler on wheels where I pack drinks, milk, and maybe a frozen item or two.

As for a packing food for flight, I sometimes use the larger Ziploc plastic containers. Sometimes I've used a shoebox, protects pretty good esp if it is a sturdy one. An extra suitcase works well also.

BTW, if you buy food before you leave home, it doesn't come out of your vacation $$ ! :cool1: :cool1:

If you weren't going to use Magical Express and were planning on using a towncar service...I'd think twice. You can rent a car at the airport from Alamo for around $30.00, do your shopping, and then drop it off at Disney. It's alot cheaper than $100.00 for a towncar service. We've done both before and I would recommend the Alamo rental.

I have always heard that you shouldn't check bags with food in them...(sets of the dogs or something. or will get your bags extra screened)

We took a roll on suitcase (pilot case) as carry on with as much food as it could hold. Then it was empty for trip home for souvenirs....

We always bring stuff, packed in our bags, which we check, when we fly.

Most of what we bring is snacks, we can share with the kids, when they get hungry at the parks. Also, we have found that when we are in a longer line, and they start to fuss, a little something goes a long way in making the wait more manageable.

I put the snacks in a shoe box, small shipping box or disposable plastic containers. I also double wrap anything containing liquid in plastic. I don't use anything that I won't through out while I'm done there. I don't want to bring any more back home than I have to.

Also, I started to use a seperate bag for snacks, food, and water/juice boxes. I have an old nylon duffle bag, which is a little less than 3 feet long, with sturdy handles. What I like about using this is that it doesn't add weight to our regular luggage, and when it is empty, it rolls up into a very small space for the return trip.

Remember that new weight limit is now 50 pounds (I think it has been lowered from 60). For larger bags it is easy to reach 50 pounds, just with cloths.

SW lets you check three bagw per person. For our family of four, that is 12 bags (about twice what we need).

It is odd that they will let you check that many bags, but when we only had 3 checked bags for four people, they wanted to charge us $25 extra dollars, because our big bag was 2 pounds over.

I've never had a problem with shipping food in our luggage.
I think our luggage was opened but there was really nothing in it worth stealing... :) just clothes and food. So I wasn't too worried even if they opened it up.
the only problem i've had just as RayRing was over weight limit on the luggage. really easy to do, so be careful.

Thanks I am going to try the suitcase, I have been using my scale to weight them. I am going to try and keep them around 40 that way I won't have to worry when I bring my Disney purchases home. :earboy2:
