We are sailing on the Magic Western 12/20 and are doing Stingray City with Capt. Marvin in Grand Cayman, swim with the dolphins in Cozumel and Sr. Panchos, and snorkeling, banana boats, biking and lazing on CC.

On my list I have the usual - sunscreen, hats, cameras, money, cards, excursion confirmations.

How do you do excurions without packing another suitcase?

What do you wear and what do you take with you? Extra clothes? Underwear? Water shoes, Tevas, tennis shoes?

We want to be comfortable and prepared for all activities, but don't want to take a backpack that weighs 15 pounds!

Thanks for your advice!

I can't help with the stringray excursion, but when we went to Coki Beach on our own in St Thomas, we wore bathingsuits with t-shirts over and shorts, and wore our sandals. I carried a beach bag with towels, some snacks and water, sunscreen, book. I sat in the sun until my suit dried, put the shirt and shorts back on and went back to the ship to shower and dress,

a backpack... they even have the mini ones now...alot smaller...and convenient ;)
You could also wear the swimsuits under your short set...tuck underwear in the back pack for when/if youns need them, and voila! Roll up what your taking in plastic ziplocs for the wet stuff.

Just my thoughts on it, ::yes::

I am bumping this because I am wondering too. My question is, we are planning to do the kayaking excursion on CC. Can I take my backpack in the kayak. Also I want to take my digital camera to get some great pictures of the ocean. Is this a good idea?
It is a weather proof camera.

What I did was this, I had us each wear the waterproof laynard with our kttw cards, I put DH's in mine so he could put a credit card and some extra cash in his (DON'T put a credit card next to your kttw card or arcade card as the magnetic strip will ruin it). I brough a beach bag/big purse type of thing (we got one in the bahamas years ago kinda like a tote bag) which I kept the underwater camera (left the good one on the ship) suntan lotion towels earplugs in. We wore our bathing suits with a cover up over it for me and tank tops for the guys. (you will dry by the time you get back to shore) When we got in the water we wore our lanyards (remember to tighten them) and left the bag on the boat. It worked out well. That is what I usually do on excursions.

I would be cautious about taking a digital camera in a water excursion. We got a reusable underwater camera with flash and 800 speed film that works well. Also as wonderful as CC is and I have left in the past expensive camera equipment unattended I have heard several people of late mentioning things dissapearing. Our digital cost $500.00 so that is not a risk I am willing to take.

Where is it that you bought your waterproof lanyard at?
TIA

Ann, were you comfortable walking around town and shopping, etc. after Capt Marvin's in your coverup? I have a two-piece with shorts - I was thinking I would just add a cotton top. I guess that was my main concern, whether I would feel "undressed" in my swim suit and shorts the rest of the day.

Oh Bonnie not to worry at al! half the town is in bikini tops and tiny tiny shorts or bottoms, I was WELL dressed in a cover up.. maybe over dressed :)

Oh, good, Ann! That puts my mind at ease!!

I can't wait to hear how your trip was -

By the way, did you surprise your MIL with the cruise next year over Thanksgiving? How did that go?

Bonnie

we did not tell her yet, we were going to but decided to wait until we booked it and were sure, I would hate to dissapoint her, Jay is talking about trying another line next year so I don't know we will see if he "feels the magic" he says this every year and then decides to do disney again..
we did buy her the msn web/tv thing she really wanted and if we do book while on board we will give them that at Christmas, I guess it will depend on how this cruise goes, I just want to get on the ship!!!!

I bought one at Walgreens in Orlando right before we left for the ship. It was in the travel section. It had a "zippy bag" zipper and then the plastic rolled up and velcroed.

When we went to Capt. Marvin's I carried a small mesh back pack that I bought for $1 at Wal-Mart. In it were water shoes, sunscreen, chapstick with sunscreen, purell (used to wipe off the snorkel equipment), underwater cameras, and I can't think what else.

We wore our suits, (me with a cover up), DS with a t-shirt, and our tennis shoes (it is probably 1/4 - 1/2 a mile to walk to Capt. Marvin's from the dock. We also had on our hats and sunglasses.

I did go back to the ship fairly quickly after we returned to get DH, but felt comfortable walking around GC in my cover-up.

On the ship in Mickey's mates, they were around five dollars each.
