How do tours work?

We are almost ready to take the plunge. (Should be able to swing paying cash in January). How do you take a tour of the vacation club while in WDW? We will be there between Christmas and New Years. How long does a tour take? Can we look at any resorts besides SSR?

You can stop at any DVC desk in the parks or resorts while you are at WDW for your vacation. Tours take approximately 1 hour and are currently being conducted at SSR. You can do a self tour of the other resorts (which is what my husband and I did).
We decided on SSR because of the financial incentives and developer points (we got a free year's worth of points). They are currently running an incentive that you can get quite a substantial discount off per point for purchasing at SSR if you are referred by a current DVC member which I think is running through the end of the year.
If you need a name for a referral, PM me and I'll be happy to provide you with one. I live in one of the states that does not allow DVC to monetarily compensate for referrals but I am always happy to share the magic.

The tour is offered at SSR and may be scheduled thru any of the kiosks in the parks or resorts. It will last about 90 minutes, but can be less if you let them know your schedule. DVC will pick you up at amy onsite resort and take you back afterwards and child care is provided.

The tour will consist of a video presentation and tour of the SSR models - plus a virtual tour of the other resorts. If you want to visit any of the other resorts, you will need to do that on your own by asking at the front desk to allow you to see a villa. If they have something vacant and clean they will usually oblige.

we just got back from our trip today, brand-new DVC members! My DH told me on Tues., enroute to Downtown, that he was going to go talk to the DVC folks - we were in a van to SSR about 15 minutes later. Our 3 kids were well cared for in the Clubhouse and there was really no pressure (we've sat through other time-share presentations before - no comparison). When our rep saw that we had done our homework, he skipped the video and went straight to the bottom line. I didn't have my ID with me or we would have signed that day - he made an appt for us to come back and we signed the papers on Fri. (and added points!) We are so excited!! Anyway, our deal took longer since we actually planned to do something that day, and we had lots of questions. They gave us 5 $15 Disney cards and free ice cream the first time, along with a ride to Epcot. The 2nd time, they sent our new member kit to our resort, gave us ice cream and also some instant fast-pass cards (our kids are all about the ice cream!) They take good care of you over there, and it was a great experience! Good luck!

Thank you all for your quick responses! We're very excited about our WDW/DCL vacation and the prospect of being DVC members very soon. We'll see if a tour works into our plans. If not, we may just wander over to Boardwalk or the Beach Club for a lookie ourselves. Dreaming of the possibilities is half the fun.

I had the same question tksbasket! We're staying at the Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel in March (too soon to bring camper out of winter storage for FW) and thought we would just walk over to SSR. Does anyone know if a DVC sales rep is always around to talk to someone? We'll be arriving on a Tuesday afternoon and that would be a perfect time since we won't be in the parks until Wednesday.

We called ahead of time to DVC and set up an appointment. (We went up from So. FL just to buy.)

Everyone was great. My wife forgot her ID in the hotel room and they even took her over to get it.
