How do say these kind of peppers

Thanks for posting that. I had Peperoncini down correctly, but not Ghiardelli. Been saying Gare-a-deli. Is that the way people you have had to correct have been pronouncing it?

It's actually Ghirardelli, so would be like gear-ar-delli.

Man seeny’s is how everyone pronounces it—I did the same with ending of the peppers. Looks like I (we) are in the minority though. I will try to remember the hard ch sound here.

It's funny to me because while growing up, my best friend used to mock me endlessly for the way I pronounced mozzarella and manicotti. She insisted it was mootzadell and manigott.

It's funny to me because while growing up, my best friend used to mock me endlessly for the way I pronounced mozzarella and manicotti. She insisted it was mootzadell and manigott.

I’m not Italian (but my husband is) and I say everything the Italian American way because pretty much everyone in my town is Italian America. I hope in this day and age folks realize that the Italian American dialect is just that, Italian American, not Italian. My FIL speaks Italian (his mom spoke very little English), but he’s not heavy on the Italian American terms.

Thanks for the correction on Ghirardelli. The problem for my family is the hard G versus a soft G. They insist on pronouncing the Gh with a soft G, as in gee whiz. Drives me crazy.

Well, that may be the "correct" way of pronouncing it, but, for those of us from the SF area, it's pronounced gear-uh-deli. As a name, many words are pronounced differently than they would be as a basic word.
