I am 28 and going to Disney with my family in July. If you looked at me you would think there was nothing wrong with me, unfortunatly that is not the case. I have RA and difficulty walking for long stretches of time and large distances. I have rented a scooter for the trip but I am afraid of getting the reaction I get when I park in a handcap parking spot sround here. Are people generally understanding?

Some are and some are not.
You know what you need though and your opinion is the only one that matters.

Our beloved Moderator is of course, exactly right on this subject: your opinion is the only one that matters

But also remember, there are lots and lots of people at WDW who rent scooters, each for his/her own reasons; all body types, folks who are clearly mobility impaired as well as folks who look able-bodied, old folks and young folks... I don't think most people will look twice at you riding an ECV. Sure there are some who will look at you funny, just as there are idiots everywhere else in our society; but it's none of their d*** business.

I think you'll find that you are in good company on an ECV at WDW, and hope you will feel comfortable as most other ppl there. No worries. Have a great trip!

I think there is a higher Wheelchair/ECV/Scooter to typically-abled people ratio at WDW than anyplace I have ever seen. So what I am saying is you will fit right in! So many differently abled people go there because they are so accomodating.

Hi Amy! :wave2:

I'm 32 and I've had RA since 25. I know what it's like to have people look at me funny when I'm hobling around like an 80 year old who's knees won't straiten out. It's nobody's business one way or the other. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a really good med before you go. That's what I'm hoping for in August. My current med is running out of gas on me.

You will never see those people again. Who cares if you get a look from a stranger??

Thanks everyone for the advice. I cannot wait to go that was my only fear in going.
