I was just wondering how Jetblue and Southwest compare. We have flown Jetblue several times but never Southwest. Southwest is far more convienent for us compared getting in and out of Logan about 1/2 the distance and 1/8 the traffic.

Now that Southwest will do assigned seating I would like to try them.

Anybody have experience with both? HOw are they in terms of seating space? Service? etc.

Thanks in Advance Dave Goofydad Dionne

There is no comparison. Jet Blue is like a higher end airline in my opinion.

-More leg room.
-TV's on the back of all seats.
-Better food service.
-More comfortable seats.

I agree with other posters that Southwest has easy, free and convenient changing of flights, but other than that, the only plus to flying Southwest is price. If the price is the same, I would recommend Jet Blue any day over Southwest.

Did I miss something? I have not seen SW change there seating policy.

I would fly whichever was cheaper LOL!

I checked www.flyertalk.com home of all rumors LOL!

Nothing there besides some old posts about how they were still studying the results of their trail last summer!

My mistake I did not realize it was just a trial last summer, well that makes up the choice for us easy. We love Jetblue anyway so I think we will stay with that.

Thanks Dave

Jet Blue and Southwest are my two favorite airlines. Both are great to deal with. Compared to each other, here are the differences I see

Pros for Jet Blue:

TV's
Legroom

Pros for Southwest

Boarding system (seriously! - once you know the system, it's much better than assigned seats for most)
More "fun"
Better infrastructure

How is it more fun?

Isn't JetBlue the airline that recently left its passengers stranded and/or forced to sit on the runway for hours before taking off/returning to the gate? If you do a google search, you will find the news articles.

If you are flying Southwest and they don't assign seats.... how would a mom and her 3 year old fly? Would they make attempts to sit us together? (He has never flown before).

You'd get seated before all other passengers.

Travellers with children that young as well as seniors get to board the plane first.

Southwest allows families with children under 5 to board first, so you would have the pick of the plane.

guess that means that my daughter is taking my grandson who is 1 on the plane but can't save seats for us .....just kidding...

For those SW newbies who may not know how it works.....you can checkin on-line 24 hrs before your flight departure. You will then be assigned an A, B, or C boarding pass. Order of boarding is thus....first up is anyone with special needs, then those traveling with children under 4 (maybe under 5), then those holding A passes, then those with B's, then finally those with C's. Usually those with A's get to sit with everyone in their group. The B's are fine unless there are more than 4 or 5 trying to sit together. Then, parties have to start splitting up. I used to dread flying SW but have found it's really no big deal.

With that all being said...I find the two pretty comparable. I love the tv's on JB....that's what keeps me waiting to book until the last minute. I love having something to amuse me on the flight. But, whoever gives me the lower price is who I'm flying with. Also, for us, it's about 35-40 mins to Logan, and an hour to Green. So, we can easily do either.
