Sorry for another H1N1 Thread! It seems like a lot of people on here were able to vaccinated. I live in MA and have been calling my primary care for the past couple weeks asking if they have any yet and they just keep saying they will call me when they have it (because I am in a high risk group). I would really like to get vaccinated before I go on vaca, and just in general as I spend a lot of time around children and high school students. I wonder if I should be calling the local hospitals and asking... I'm sure they get a lot of calls so I really don't want to be annoying when I highly doubt they have any anyway. I saw a news story the other day saying that a travel clinic in my area had 100 doses of the nasal vaccine "first come first served". I was thinking about calling them tomorrow, but I would really rather get the injection as I've heard about side effects from the nasal vaccine. Any suggestions?

My teens were able to get it from our pediatrician BUT many here have got it at the health dept. You may even be able to look them up online and see. Ours has had supplies come and go several times. It is for the first priority group only here (pregnant women, kids up to 18, health care workers).

You can check online at www.flu.gov and each state has it's own link. I know for DC they list all the free H1N1 clinics. Ours are only doing the priority groups right now though, so if you don't qualify for those, not sure when exactly you can get one at those clinics, or when they will be in dr's offices.

I am going to call my kids Pedi tomorrow to see if they have the mist

It depends upon where you live. We're still waiting here in NJ, and the way it's going to work is they're giving it out in the schools, and here in town, you have to have a medical condition to get it as an adult (pregnant, asthma, etc.).

Where are you in MA? I know of a flu clinic in Worcester that will be giving 700 doses on a first come first serve basis for people in the high risk group. If you are nearby it could be worth the drive, PM me and I will give you the info I have.

I love the DIS and all the helpful people!!! I have been online looking for info for about an hour. Then I thought, I'll check the DIS, and guess what, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much.

Anytime! I was in your boat last week, searching endlessly, then I heard them mention it on our local news and was thrilled to finally find that site which told me exactly what I needed to get our shots yesterday.

Here the County Health Departments seem to be the only places that have gotten shipments so far. I'm not sure when the Doctor's offices will start to get their supplies.

The County Health Depts are holding clinics and offering it through the schools.

No luck here at all. Two kids in high risk groups besides just being kids. No shots available. I'm in a risk group too but I am just searching for my children. No shots, no chance.

I have to wonder if the government was NOT involved in the process, if it might have gone more smoothly.

it's great that they love to scare the crap out of me (pregnant women could die!) and then not offer me a chance to get the vaccine because there is none to give. Thanks for that. :lmao:

I was able to get them for my kids last week (high priority due to asthma) from the local Health Department before the peds office even announced that they were available from the health dept. The Health Department did a free shot clinic and used their entire shipment in about 3 hours.

My recommendation.... call the health department.

Keep checking.

More shipments of both forms are trickling in.

I just got my injectable vaccine today, and I'm a health care worker with direct patient contact.

I agree. Our ped said that it would come through the health department before the office would get any. I would also recommend going VERY early if you go to a "first-come first-served" clinic. I went to one just a bit over 3 hours early today--was 4th in line, but 2 hours later, there were at least 300 or more behind us. Good luck!
