How disrupting can resort construction be?

Hi everyone,

As per title, I booked a stay at Pop centrury for next November and the next day I saw that they are going to be having a pretty lengthy construction till 2026 for the rooms as most of may know. I was wondering for those who’ve stayed at a resort whilst construction is going on how disruptive was it and is it worth changing my reservation? I usually like to spend rest days at the hotel so not sure how annoying this will be.

Thanks for the help!

I find it way more disruptive to stay at a resort when the foodcourt, pool or lobby is under construction.

By next fall you’ll have an idea which buildings they’ll be working on when you’re there and you can request a building further away from the construction. So there will probably be zero issues. I’d stick with Pop.

It depends on what they’re doing, when they’re doing it, where they're doing it, and where you are in relation to that.

No way to give a more definite response than that, particularly a year out. If concerned, perhaps consider switching to a different resort.

Anecdotally, we were staying in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea a few years back. It’s usually a pretty relaxed place. That year, the adjacent motel (there are mostly beachfront motels, not hotels) was undergoing renovations. The work was during late morning to mid-afternoon hours. Wasn’t particularly loud. But, it was hour after hour, day after day. It significantly dampened the relaxed beach vibes.

If it was me going to Pop during major renovation, I’d try to discern my resort plans. There only to sleep at night = keep reservation. Planning to spend any appreciable time on property = consider elsewhere.

They’ll eventually be hep to that hack and probably charge more.

Stayed at Pop twice during their last round of renovations and barely noticed it. I was in a wing of a building adjacent to the work once too. This is going to be a soft goods and mid Reno. It will be fine.

Unless something we're interested in is closed due to the construction, we haven't felt much disruption. We're not usually in the room during the bulk of the work, and when we are, we usually have the TV on so we don't notice it.

I think we've found most of the disruptions are aesthetic, with cranes or scaffolding and workers around outside. They tend to be pretty good about keeping the noise down throughout the day, especially early.

THIS⬆️ We were going to book polyamory a couple years ago when there was the bulk of construction and the enormous dirt pile for a lot of standard rooms. Decided to book at YC because we didn’t care to see that out our window.

I think the best answer is "it depends".

I was at POFQ when it was under a soft goods refurb in 2018, other than a building being closed, it wasn't very impactful.
We were there during one of the room refurbishment and had the same experience.
Another visit was when POFQ was renovating their food court. The food service was moved to the old Bonfamille's restaurant (now Scat Cat's Jazz club). Since we only use the food court for breakfast or refilling mugs it was fine for us.

I will never knowingly stay in a resort where there is construction/renovation work going on ever again. We stayed at Club level with a water view room in the YC once during construction/renovations. The noise started at 8:00 am every morning right outside our room. (supposed to start after 9:00. It didn't.) It was LOUD!!! So loud that it hurt your ears to be in the room. Forget using our balcony to enjoy the expensive view. Forget sleeping in. Forget returning to your room for a relaxing break during the day. Forget having a glass of wine on your balcony before going out for your dinner plans. We put up with it for three days. On the 4th day we woke up and looked out our patio door at a man sanding our balcony while we were in the room asleep! We were on the fifth floor and had left the door open during the night! I was shocked!
we moved that morning........

That was the last time that I stayed at a resort with construction. You may be lucky and not be bothered, or you may have an experience like ours. the risk is simply not worth it to me.

I too would stay from Deluxe level resorts since they are not all separate buildings like a Moderate or Value.

Thanks everyone for the help, I phoned up yesterday and changed my resort just because I didn’t want the extra worry of the construction. I am probably in the minority here though, even if there is a possibility of it not being disruptive.I appreciate everyone’s advice and the giggle!
