How difficult will it be to book at Poly on Spring Breaks?

Thinking of buying a small direct contract there as April break is one of our favorite times to travel. How hard will be be to get that time frame in the seven month window. Worth it to buy for that reason alone? That and I love the Poly . We own at BLT....but the Poly is truly magical!!

Spring break is not a particularly hard season to book most DVC.

It should be doable at 7 months because spring break around Easter is one of the most expensive seasons, but I would book right away. If you want peak season like fall or December, definitely buy Poly points . It is difficult to predict what the booking patterns will be like once the resort is sold out, so I am in the camp that says, "Buy where you want to stay".

I agree that time is an easier one to book so no, it's not a reason to purchase. I'd try using my BLT points there until such time as it became evident it was a problem. And it might never become a problem. Until PVB gets sold out and a few years under it's belt the long term booking patterns are just a guess of course.

Well I put a deposit down on a 60 PT PVB contract but haven't signed anything yet.... having a little buyer's remorse now knowing that....especially since they released new inventory and it's easier to book. I would like to own there in the future, just having second thoughts now about the cost and knowing I paid around 100 per point direct for my 100 pt BLT contract a long time ago. Decisions!!

Questions like this were posted a few years ago about other resorts, now those buyers are asking why booking at 7 months is so hard.

It still makes a difference for the time of year though and spring is not fall. The questions are most asked about the small resorts with limited rooms. Poly studios aren't part of that group. Will they be? We still don't know.

I do know that yesterday after reading yet another thread that another new owner that bought Poly and was booking a larger villa elsewhere (that one was about booking BLT) for their larger family that I was thinking its following norms and owners there will also be looking to trade elsewhere meaning availability will happen for non Poly owners. Then one has to decide if it's a must to book there whenever they want or if it's a good when we get it situation.

My fear is that Disney is changing that way that they do business, slow times aren't as slow anymore. They are running, and creating special events to max occupancy. Booking and availability has changed and will change more in the future. I would rather error on the cautious side than suggest that a new buyer doesn't have to be concerned with booking a certain resort.

Except it is always going to be possible to buy Poly. Direct will be an option for awhile - maybe forever. And the question here did not seem to be that they were trying to decide between which resort to add on - such as SSR or Poly. It was essentially "can I get Poly with the BLT points I already own". In that scenario I don't think it's time yet to suggest a Poly purchase and they will still be able to get Poly in the future should changes you suggest happen because, as of now, the higher point costs in the spring do not have the same demand.

Poly studios were open this year March through April at 7 months out and beyond. Perhaps after it sells out that might change although I doubt it except for the possible risk mentioned above in that Disney may create some new event during that time that causes enough demand to close out rooms before 7 months out.

Disney actually did so this year by adding the Star Wars Dark Side weekend with the half marathon in mid-April (it is April 21-23 next year). Poly did not fill by 7 months out for that weekend this year but some rooms that in the past usually never filled mid-April by 7 months out, even when it was Easter, did fill before 7 months for that race weekend this year, particularly BWV pool/garden view studios and BLT lake view studios. Creation of race weekends has been a big contributor in the past to high demand, e.g., the Princess half marathon weekend in Feb has higher DVC demand than Presidents Day weekend, Easter time, July 4 time, Memorial day weekend and Labor Day weekend, and it appears the Dark Side marathon weekend is now becoming the equal of the Princess half marathon weekend.

I think from my history of booking that it should not be an issue at 7 months at spring break. We have been at all the resorts at spring break, even getting 3 days in a value at AKL. So with the number of studios that are available I can not see it being an issue. We were at the Poly this spring and the girls loved it.

No one knows what will happen when the Poly will be sold out.
Studios cost more than most studios at other resorts (but they are also the biggest) and more expensive options tend to book slowly. Also, there are only studios and very very expensive 2BR bungalows, so a family willing to book a larger room will have to book another resort, leaving Poly rooms available for other members.
On the other end, the high cost per night of the Bungalows may cause most of them to sit around unbooked for most of the year. If almost everyone will buy Poly for the studios, more points will be sold than rooms available. This may cause studios to became very difficult to get at 7 months.
It can go either way.

If you have enough points, give it a try for a couple of years and see. If it's too difficult, buy the points resale. Otherwise, I'd likely just buy a fixed week in the middle of the Easter season or the week your schools tend to be out if applicable.
