How difficult have you found it to rent your points?

Right, of course. That's why I'm trying to figure out how easy it is to rent points. I suppose earning a reputation for following through helps! And I could definitely forsee using all 320 points in some years, or even more to get a villa once in a while...and really I'm buying this with the intent of vacationing at WDW, not necessarily as an investment.

I've browsed the rent/trade boards and I'll be honest, I wouldn't rent from someone with so few posts or only rental posts. You have no idea of their history, whether they'd just disappear or not, or whatever.

I think other renters look for similar things. Having a 'relationship' with the boards helps a lot IMO.

Yes, I understand. Thanks so much everyone for your replies! Looks like I'll be getting the contracts in the mail shortly. And FYI, home resort is BLT, and I will have about 300 points to rent!

I'm planning a trip in October for F&W, and to see the Main street electrical parade, which I haven't seen in years!

Just remember that any damage your renter creates, you are responsible for. So if you rent to a group of college kids on spring break, you will be responsible for their damages. Or if you rent to someone who really wants a one bedroom instead of the studio you rented for them, they might just ask for an upgrade using your points and there is no way to get the money from them for that afterwards.

You'd really be better just purchasing the number of points you need and forget about renting out an extra 100 each year.

Renting my points was been very easy on the DVC rent/trade board last year and even last week. However, one person I booked for hasn't paid and isn't responding so I had to cancel her resses. When I tried to relist today, I found that there is a new requirement of 50+ posts and been a member for more than 6 months for people who want to post their points for rent. I completely understand their reasoning, but it's something you should consider before planning to rent your points.

Although I dont post very much on this forum I generally find that I can sell my excess points without any hassle. If you are honest and keep to your word then people will also recommend you to others. Hope you manage to get them sold quickly.

I've rented points a couple of times and it depends upon who is renting. Sometimes the transaction is really smooth, other times you have to do a lot of work. I normally have the points I need to rent gone in a week. Good luck!

Just for clarification for those just now reading about the recent rule changes...we now require that someone submitting a Points for Rent, Points for Rent/Transfer, Point for Transfer or a reservation for Rent thread to have had their DIS user name for at least 6 months and have 50 posts on DIS boards other than the Rent/Trade board. This rule has been in effect for Reservation for Rent posts since earlier this year, but has been applied to other posts as of the evening of July 24th.

This rule does not apply to those seeking a reservation that are replying to Points for Rent or Transfer threads. It also does not apply to Point Transfer Wanted or any of the "trade" categories.

Also, all persons submitting a thread will need to make sure they can receive PMs from the DIS board moderators, it is an option in you User Control Panel.

I have only rented our points once, but it happened pretty fast. I rented them for $10 a point and it went really smooth. Make sure that you get a contract. I required half down immediately and the other half one week before the trip, but you can make an arrangement that works for you.

I get $10 a point, with 1/2 up front, 1/2 at check in. Basically he emailed me with the details, I called MS and booked the reservation and sent him the confirmation #. He verfied, had the renter pay, and I already have 1/2 the money. It has to go to a Paypal acct. The renter pays him $13 a point.

This is the first time using him, it's been very smooth so far. I think it took abou 4-6 weeks to get my points rented, and it was only part of them. I'm not in a rush though, these points don't expire for awhile. Then once Aulani is here I'm hoping to use my point there sometime.

Tell your family and friends! I use my points, but friends who have gone with us have happily paid $10/point since it saves them so much money over booking a hotel room at Disney. I bet you'll love it at BLT so much that you'll be using those 300 pts per year

We rented out some points this year for the first time. We got a great number of responses. The hardest part was getting villas for the dates requested in 2009.

It seemed to us that some of the people answering the ad had unreal expectations. Of those, most had less than 10 posts and just didn't understand the system. So, be prepared for lots of emails and posts back and forth for a few days to get down to the people who will be renting. Have a contract ready to fax them.

We are renting to 2 nice families who have been great to work with!

I concur with CoolCat...funny thing is that renting at higher rates is actually more easy as the people who are serious won't care about $2 difference especially if the member has been around the boards for years...

Renting from someone with just joined with 2 posts at $8-9 should at least be approached with caution...though I am generally paranoid

I've been both the renter and the rentee. In fact, I rented out some of my points a few months ago and then this month decided I needed more points than I had, so I had to find someone to rent from! All transactions have been smooth. All took about a day from posting to deal completion. I literally posted a thread on the board yesterday and completed the transaction this morning, for example. I've met some good people.

With BLT points, I think it's easier to rent if the points you have to offer can be used in the 11 month period. If you have points expiring in the next 7 months, then your points are fungible and you sort of lose the opportunity to market them to someone who is looking ahead and wants your home resort. It doesn't necessarily make it easier or harder to rent, but if you're renting to 7 month renters, you have to do more leg work. For example, if I offer April 2011 UY BLT points for rent, there's a good chance I'm going to get someone who knows exactly what they want and there is going to be availability. If I'm renting out BLT points that expire in February 2011, I'm going to get lots of responses from people who want me to check for a Boardwalk view next week and want to pay $7 per point.

You want to alway keep your thread fresh. You can do this by replying to your own thread every now and again to keep it at the higher portion of the threads for renting points.
Use a catchy title......"CHEAP POINTS FOR RENT"
The more popular renting price is $9.00 per point but in the end you may need to be prepared to settle for $8.50 or so. There are so MANY renters out there yes some post for points to rent at $12.00 but most people interested in renting points will hit up more then one poster and in the end they will go with the cheapest price.
Be very prepared to get tons of request......this means they will let you know where and when they want to vacation, it will then be your job to call member services and find out if these dates are available. Staying on top of these request and getting a quick response will help you rent your points faster.
The BEST way is to ask people to PM you with the details for their vacation request. This way you can just check you in box everyday.
Also if you dont have one yet......GET ONE. You need a paypal account.
