Since we are planning our first trip on DCL we were wondering how you liked the cat 11 and 12 rooms?

Were they big enough for you?

Were you comfortable?

How many people were in the room?

We are 2 adults in our 30's, we are a little on the tall and large size and just wanted some feedback on rooms...

Thanks for any help.

We had an 11 on our first cruise and had no problem with it. It was DH, myself, DS 3 1/2, and DS 8 months. We had a sit & stand carriage folded up in the room, plus the pack n play. Obviously we didnt have a ton of extra room, but nothing that made us uncomfortable or caused any problems.

My wife and I had a cat 11 last year on our first cruise and were happy enough with it that we have the same cabin for this year.

My family (husband, daughter, and myself) stayed in category 11, 9 and 7. In fact, after "upgrading" to a more expensive cabin, our next cruise we booked a cat 11 again. We did not spend much time in our room or the baloney to justify the extra expense. Cat 11& 12 do not have a split bath or trunk. The only thing we felt was nice about the split bath was the extra shelves. Cat 11 only have one very small shelf below the mirror. Maybe it was me, but I could not make my curling iron work in either bathroom so I had to do my hair outside the bathroom.

:wave2: We booked a Cat. 11 on our last cruise. It was great. My DH is 6'4, and my 9 yr dd was in there with us. It was roomy enough for us. We enjoyed the darkness of the room. (good for naps anytime of the day;) ).

The only reason we booked a CAT 10 this trip is because we are taking a friend for me dd!!

We didn't spend much time in the room.

I always curled my hair outside the bathroom to make room for some one else.

Dh, DD (age 11) and I were in a Cat 11 in October, after having cruised Cat 6 3X. We are all quite tall, and felt very comfortable. I did miss the extra storage space that is in the Cat 10 and above. If it were just DH and I, a Cat 11 would be great, but with DD we go for more storage space.

We just took our first DCL and were in a Cat 5. I must say I would consider cruising in a 11-9. The verandah was nice to watch as we pulled out of port or to look and watch the waves crash by. BUT- We tried to eat our champagne breakfast in bed on ours and our DD didn't have a place to sit, we were balancing trays on our lap. If the cost is a little more go for it, but if you are looking at close to 1000 extra for it skip it.
Also it seems the lower the category you book the higher the chance you will be upgraded.
Just my Humble opion.

The only difference between 12 and 11 is the location. 12s are on Deck 2, under potentially noisy areas, but if you stay out late at the clubs, that might not even be an issue. Cat. 11 staterooms are on higher decks with other staterooms over them, so the probabilty of noise is much lower.
Our very first Disney cruise was in a Cat. 11, and we sailed in that Cat. a few more times after that. While I definitely prefer a porthole or verandah, I would definitely take a Cat. 11 if I had to. You spend so much time doing things that you're rarely in the stateroom anyway. It was plenty of room for my hubby and I.

We've done cat 6 twice and cat 11 the most recent time because $$ was a consideration. There are two of us (both adults) and there was plenty of room for us, and we liked the room just fine. We booked a cat 11 for Oct 2005 for our first seven day, and I am not worried about being in an inside room at all.

Barb, I am curious...with so many cruises under your belt, what cat. 11 rooms would you recommend for our family of five (using 2 rooms)? Somebody said deck 7 aft is nice, but are there others that you loved and are quiet? We'll be booking next month with the DVC.

We sailed in December at Cat 11, and we are in Cat 11 for a seven-day this August. I had been told the cabins were nice regardless, but I was still pleasantly surprised. The mirrors and room arrangement make it seem larger than its proported size. It was just right for us, but then again, neither Gf nor I is taller than 5'4".

The only thing I would recommend, is to unpack your suitcase fully and store it somewhere. Some have said you could put it under the bed, but we didn't know about it at the time. We kept ours on the couch, but in retrospect, the couch would have a nicer place to sit had we not needed to shove suitcases aside. The closet should be ample space to store. For our seven days, we will unpack completely and store.

The bed was awesome! Nice and large, we could have slept sideways if we had wanted to.

You'll be good, don't worry. Enjoy the extra money you save with excursions and drinks!

I am so happy to have found this thread. We are hopefully a week away from booking a cruise and a Cat. 11 would fit our point budget best. We bought a DVC resale and have banked points to use, lucky us! I just checked and there still is availablity, so, I'm hoping that my next Cruise forum post will be one that includes a countdown to our first Disney Cruise!

Somebody said deck 7 aft is nice

We sailed in 7123 and 7125 on Wonder in Dec. 2003, and the locations was great. Very quiet, very close to the aft "secret deck".

DH and I shared one room, and my 6'2" son and his wife and three year old daughter shared the other room. None of is us what you would call slender  and we were all very comfortable. We had enough luggage with us for our 17 day trip, and we weren't really crowded.

This was our third Cat. 11 cruise. We've been on Deck 6 mid-ship (6083 and 6085) twice, and that was nice too. One one trip we were three adults in the room (took my FIL), and the first time it was just the two of us.

We're looking forward to many more DCL cruises, and they'll probably all be Cat. 11 or 12. We don't spend enough time in the room, except to sleep and shower, to make it worth any extra money for a higher category.

Check out this thread explaining the difference in Standard v. Deluxe cabins.

The only issue I have with the Cat 11 is that there is less storage space. But if you follow the suggestion of taking an over-the door shoe holder, you'll have room for all the little things, and there is enough room for all the big things.

Otherwise, the last time we had a Cat 11, we had a 1 year old with us, and because of naps, we spent a lot of time in our cabin. I never felt cramped (it still provides ample space). But if you can afford it, the verandahs are great. The room is alot brighter (because you get outside light) and you can take a step outside any time of day or night to get some freash air.

Thanks for these rm numbers Beth! Thats just what I was looking for as I'm booking with DVC in a few weeks. I just checked the deck plans and that looks great. thanks again!

We were in a cat 12 last October for our cruise and booked a cat. 11 for this coming October. We actually liked the location of the cat 12 on deck 2 and had no problem with noise at all. We didn't stay up late either.

This time our cabin is on deck 7 and we debated changing to go back to deck 2 but have decided to see what it's like.

Watch the price though because sometimes the cat 12 is more expensive than the cat 11.
