How did you find your contract?

I've been lurking on this board since early 2013. We're finally ready to buy resale at BLT. I have a good feel about how how the system works based on what I've read here. My parents are also members, so I've done a few stays at BLT and SSR. I've had access to the member site since I am an associate member, so I've been able to view availability at various times of the year.

Our next trip is a large family trip in early Dec 2016. I'm hoping to close in time to be able to book the day the 11 mo window opens. I've seen the sticky with all of the broker links. What I'm wondering is how people here have found their resale contracts. Do you just wait till you find the right one in the email blasts, or do you contact all the brokers up front, tell them what you are looking for, and they contact you when they have it? I was just wondering if it's worth the effort to make contact with all of them up front, or if it's a waste of time.

I have a preferred broker, I told them what I wanted and they emailed me when they had something similar and I offered straight away.

Same here, if you wait for the email blast, it may be to late.

Did you have a preferred broker before you bought your very first contract? i guess I'm wondering if I just email all of them, and then whoever gets me what I'm looking for at the right price wins the title of Pachelbel9's preferred broker.

I found both of ours on The Timeshare Store, the 2nd one on their new listing tweets. They send out an e-mail, a FB notice and a tweet 1-2x a day with their new listings.

I signed up to all the email lists and kept checking the website pages and facebook pages until I found a contract that I was interested in, currently waiting for closing docs.

I used the DVC search engine and waited until I found what I wanted. I liked the search engine because it also tells you how long a contract has been on the market which is helpful when determining how much you want to offer.

I have been curious as well since I see contracts on the waiting for ROFR list I have never seen before. Plus, now that I am looking, there seem to be no contracts or when they pop up they are dole right away.

Sorry, I'm totally ignorant about this but interested. Can you share specifics when you say DVC search engine? Do you mean through a resale site or DVC direct? Can you point me in the right direction please? TIA!!!! :)

If you do a google search you will find it
It is a search engine that lists contracts from several of the big brokers
It is not for direct sales

Called about one contract that had full 2014 and 2015 points and found that the listing was in error and the contract was stripped. I was bummed and looked again at the website and found a contract that I initially missed with a better price that had all of its 2015 points but not the 2014 points. Went for that instead and offer was accepted right away.

We ended up finding our contract via the Timeshare Store's 2pm Twitter listing. We made an offer on Fri. night, seller countered on Sat. morning, we countered back, and they accepted on Sat. afternoon. I was actually surprised they accepted less than asking so quickly. The broker told us they probably wouldn't even respond to our initial offer until after the next email blast (which was Sun morning). Not that I'm complaining!

The contract was more than we originally were planning to buy (224 vs. 180 originally planned), and it wasn't the use year I was originally shooting for. In the end, I realized that in 20+ trips only one was rescheduled, and that was done 8 months in advance due to a positive pregnancy test (I was due 1 week before trip). Plus, I expect our travel patterns will change once our kids are in school. In other words, I am not that concerned about UY. Now we're just join the ROFR wait torture. Thanks to all for the tips!

I've used the DVC search engine, but I've noticed that listings have been slow to come by. I also periodically go the websites and check. I'm almost considering calling DVC to get added to a waitlist as I'm in the market for another add on. I'd hate to pay that full price but nothing's come through as of late.

So, if anyone is selling BLT with an August use year, let me know :)
