How did you come up with your pet's name?

And of course... our yellow lab "Disney". Very sadly, we had to put her down last week because of seizures due to a brain tumor. She was the "bestest" goofy dog we could have ever asked for.

OT - Philip, I was following your thread & I'm very sorry for your loss.

Our 1st dog was named Velvet. My aunt's dog had puppies & my cousins named her. She looked like a miniature black lab - her name was very appropriate.

Our 2nd was a wonderful (& much missed) Sheltie mix named Muffin. She was 6 months old when we got her from an older woman who had just moved into an apartment & couldn't keep her. She was originally named Mittens but Muffin fit her well since she was so sweet.

Our current love is a Sheltie named Muffin's Maggie May. Maggie May from one of my favorite songs & Muffin to honor my sweet girl's memory.

We found him at a Sonic Drive In. He was housetrained and was used to going to the door to go out and come right back in. We searched high and low for his owner, signs, newspaper, lost and found. We just knew someone was looking for him. My son called him John Doe. When no one ever claimed him he we just kept him and kept calling him that.

Alexis AKA Meatball...she got Alexis because I love that name and she got Meatball (which is what she is called 99% of the time) because I had to bottle feed her when she was a kitten so she gained a lot of weight and she had tiny little short legs, so she looked like a meatball with legs...:lovestruc

Sunny- because he is orange

Belle- because I named her after Princess Belle

I named my cat Cat because it is a cat.

Guess what my dog's name was.

pre-kids we had Mickalob (Mickey), Genesee (Jenny), Rocky for some ale I can't remember now, Brandywine, and Patrick. Patrick came about because I was pregnant and DM was lobbying for Patrick if it was a boy. I don't like the name and it definately didn't match our last name, so I named the dog Patrick lol. I also had a cat named Trouble because it was the most polite thing I could think of to call him every time he got into something.

We got another kitten when oldest Ds was 3 and I told him he could name the cat. Everyone I knew who had allowed their child to pick the name got funny or cute names. Ds thought for days and came up with Kitty lol.

Currently we have 2 cats. One is Oreo, she came named. The other is Esmerelda. The kids were all fighting over names, I was tired of it and came up with Esmerelda because I couldn't think of anything else. The dogs are named Buddy (ds being original again, this is the 2nd dog he's named Buddy), and Ivan. Ivan got his name because dh picked him and named him after Ivan the Terrible. It fits him perfectly!

we have 2 dogs, named the one nala yes after the lion king and our other dog is name batty because with her ears up she looks like a little bat!

When I was young we had a dog named Josie, don't know where the folks came up with the name, but when we moved to a new house one of our neighbors was also named Josie ,which we found out when my mom was calling for the dog one day and our neighbor answered her :lmao: Even funnier was we later one had another dog, we named Sadie(after a character in a Disney movie) Turns out our neighbor Josie's mothers name was you guessed it Sadie!!

Dog Thunder is named that b/c DS said he was "as fast as thunder." I know it makes no sense but he was 4 at the time.;)

My cat who died 18 months ago was named Ebony; she was black.

Oldest living cat is Onyx; she is black, but was also named after the Pokemon.

Next cat is Pharaoh; we were looking for something regal, because he is, well, regal.

Two youngest are siblings from a rescue, Antonio and Blythe. I would have preferred to change them, but DS thought Antonio sounded like a mobster,:rotfl:, and did not like any name I picked for Blythe, so we just kept their given names.

I has cats named Yeller(was very vocal), Scooter(back legs were straight and he really did scoot), Tippy-Tail(white tip on his tail) and many others when I was young.

My dog is named Ole. My mom named him Ole because she grew up in North Dakota and there were some big, blonde, Norwegian-descent men who were nicknamed Ole (Ole is a yellow lab). We didn't have much say in naming him (Originally I wanted to name him Clue I think... Or Scout. I can't remember which).

I love Siamese cats. Looove them!

I grew up with a Chang (who died), then my mom got Ching, then Sushi.

My uncle worked for Coca Cola and found a kitten so young, all it's little teeth weren't poked out yet. :guilty: He knew my mom would take her, so he scooped her up and we then had Coca.

Then we found a Mom cat and all her kittens in the basement of an apartment we lived in, in the city. We knew all the kittens would be adopted, so we gave those to The Anti Cruelty society. But the Mom we kept....Mia (Mama Mia!)

Charley - our dog. My husband finally agreed to a dog - suggested Charley and since I was so over joyed at him agreeing, and certainly didn't want to rock the *YES* boat - I said "Perfect!!" I wanted George. :cool2:

Our cat of 19 years (passed last fall) was named Moe. He's a classic brown tabby with the "M" on his forehead, so we had to come up with an "M" name.

.

Was your cat a Mainecoon? Mainecoons have "M" on their foreheads. Just wondering...we have 3.

our dog is called Cody. we were trying to think of disney names. my sister suggested Cody, as in "suite life"

Part of my dog's official name is my name here!

When I got my Siberian husky 12 years ago, I was expecting a male dog...but when it was time, the male was female. I had a slew of "male" names so I waited a couple of weeks to see what her personality was like. Well, this dog is beautiful and she knows it -- and uses it to her advantage. After seeing this trait, I knew I had to name her after on of my favorite Literary characters -- Katie Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind

Thus my dog's name is officially, Miss Fitt Katie Scarlett but we just call her Scarlett.

The girls:

Your little girls are soooo cute!! I love Siamese- the personality, look, sound, everything. They are all-around terrific cats for people who really love cats.

My mom had 2 Siamese when I was a baby- their names were Me-Ping and Solween. I don't know if she actually researched or just came up with Thai-sounding words. They were wonderful cats.

Well being Disney Freaks here's what we have:

11 y/o pointer Fantasia
6 y/o pointer sisters Lily & Belle
7 y/o dachshund Disney
4 y/o redbone coonhound Gilbert (one of the Goof Troop nephews)
and the big boy below came with his name as he was found wandering in the town of Dillon (So or No Carolina can't remember which) It suits him so we kept it
paw:paw:paw:

We named Apple :cat: after my grandma. She always hated her name (Ethel) and threatened to come back and haunt anyone who named a child after her. When my brother was little, he couldn't say "Ethel" and said "Apple" instead. We got Apple shortly after my grandma died and I figured if I named a cat "Apple" and not a child "Ethel", I'd be free from haunting. Apple will be 5 this summer and thus far, no ghost sightings of Grandma Ethel!

all cats:

Tiger....cuz she has stripes

Kippy....middle DS named her, not sure why.

Pudge......he was short and stout as a kitten and the name stuck.

Blondie......because she's blonde.

Real original names!!!:rotfl:
