How did you come up with your pet's name?

I adopted my dog and kept her name, Laney. The people I adopted her from had another dog named Craimer and their neighbor had a dog named Newman. Laney is short for Eilean.

My cat is very orange so I was going to name him Mango but I changed it to Tango partially because of someone's name on Ghost Hunters.

I got Abe on President's day so he is named after Lincoln.

One of my two cats is named CC. It stands for Charity Case. She was five years old when I adopted her and had some mental health issues, so it seemed unlikely that anyone else was going to adopt her anytime soon. Eight years later, she has definitely made my life more interesting!

We live on a farm, so we have tons of pets.

Our farm dog (a 5 lb. Chihuahua :lmao:) is named Puppy-Yow. DH named her Bowser when we got her, but I didn't think it fit her, so Puppy is what she became. When DS8 was a baby and started talking, he called her Yow, because that's how she barks. So now she is Puppy-Yow.

DS8 has named most of our other animals.
Streaky is a tan pygmy goat nanny with a brown streak down her back.
Brownie is Streaky's sister. She's the color of chocolate milk - like the Brownie chocolate drinks I used to drink when I was a kid.
Oreo is a pygmy goat nanny that is black on both ends & white in the middle.
Billy Bangs is a white pygmy goat billy that has realllly long hair on the front of his head that looks like bangs.
Midnight is a pygmy goat billy that is solid black.
Collar is a white pygmy goat nanny that just appeared in our pasture one day. She had on a red collar, so her name became Collar.
Collar Jr. is another white pygmy goat nanny that is the daughter of - yep, you guessed it - Collar!
Then we have another group of pygmy goats that was born all around the same time and DS8 named them Robert, Susie, Tiffany & Josh after a family in our church :lmao:.

We also have 2 sheep named BEWElah Lamb (after the gospel song Beulah Land) and her baby is named Snowflake - she is white and was born during the snowstorm we had last Christmas. We used to have the daddy sheep too, but he died. His name was RAMpelstiltskin.

DS8 also used to have a hen named Chicken Pattie and a rooster named Jack (after a man in the same family from church).

Wow! That's a lot of pets!

JMACB (Jay-Mac-Bee) - "Jay" - He was a shepard we had when I was younger. His name was the intials of my whole family put together.

Bootsie - A cat when I was younger, he had white boots!! :-)

Chatham and Dallas - My 8 year old brother and sister cats. Just liked the names and wanted something that was city/town.

Lobo - The Corgi that DH and I had when we were first married, he was a long anticipated and researched wedding gift to each other. It means "wolf" in Spanish and he looked like a wolf (well more like a fox but close). Also the waiter on our wedding cruise was named John Wolfe and went by the name Lobo. Prior to him being our waiter that week we couldn't agree on a name for the puppy.

Sampson "Sammie" - Our 8 year old adopted hound mix. He just looks like a Sampson with sad dark eyes and a droopy face!!

My cats are 14 and 16....Cosmo (Kramer) and Newman. Obvious Seinfeld.

Our 1 year old dog...Luna Lovegood....Harry Potter

My first dog was a pound rescue that was so bubbly when I met him I named him Sprite.

My next dog was a tiny little boy Pomeranian that thought he was a giant so I named him Napoleon. When he passed away 2 years ago, my husband bought me a girl Pomeranian and we named her Josephine, as in Napoleon's great love, and we call her JoJo.

Ok - Shanghi got name that because at the time I had 2 other pets - a cat named Shy-enne (which fit him well since he was Shy) but it sounded like Cheyenne the city. Then I got a dog and named her Shiloh - I liked the name and my aunt and uncle had a dog named that - this was WAY before Brad and Angelina decided to name their daughter that and before the movie with the dog named that came out. After I named my dog that I found out Shiloh is also a place (biblical city and a battlefield in TN) so I saw a trend in naming my pets with names that started with S - therefore Shanghi and yes I know its spelled different than the Chinese city. After that I got another cat and struggled to find a name that was a place and started with an S but since I got her in NC I found a city named Sapphire that was near where I got her from so she became Sapphire (but we never called her that - she was always Sis Hillbilly - since she was a girl therefore "sister" to Shanghi and she was from hillbilly country (and she acted like a hillbilly - LOL) After she passed away I got another cat and in honor of Sis Hillbilly I named him Billy - just Billy (he doesn't act like a hillbilly - LOL) Recently I got another cat - my sister got him for me for Christmas in 2008 - she sent me a picture of the litter of kittens and I picked him out of the litter - as soon as I saw his picture I knew his name would be Simba - and it totally fits him.

So Shanghi, Billy and Simba are my kitties still with me - the other's Shy-enne, Sapphire and Shiloh have all passed on.

We adopted a Lab/Boxer mix from the Shelter and his name was Keeper. Which I love!!! What a great name for a pound dog!

And he's a great big sissy. My DD3 pulls his ears, pulls his tail, really gives him the business. He just lays there, he loves it.

Then about a week later a got a phone call from my daughter while I was at work from DD7 and she told me that they renamed the dog.

"Brutal".

Yep, Brutal. My 7 year old is sarcastic.
:thumbsup2

Beauty (black cat) Popeye (white cat - not really sure why) and Bailey my german shepherd (just cause we liked the name). Bailey's registered name is DKM Bailey's Irish Dream

Our cat of 19 years (passed last fall) was named Moe. He's a classic brown tabby with the "M" on his forehead, so we had to come up with an "M" name.

Our two yellow labs are Susie and Summer. Summer we got in summertime, and we just happened to be watching Grease one day and noticed the song and how beautifully golden Summer is, so we named her Summer. We'd also sing that song to her, "Summer lovin, happened so fast." Dorky, I know.

Susie we named because we felt we should stick with an "S" name and preferably a name from a song we could relate to her. Susie Q from CCR is one of our favs and describes how we feel (actually felt) about her perfectly. We sure loved everything about her, rest her little soul.

We now have two kittens -- thought after the death of two such special pets in our life warranted some frisky young energy! We didn't want to go with any song names, because when the animals pass, the songs will make us very sad (I can't even hear CCR's Susie Q yet).

We did want to go with Disney/Pixar/MGM type names. The kittens are brother and sister, so we didn't want any romantic couple names ... yuk. We saw the female tackling her brother one day, and they did that perfect Lion King tackle with her on top, rolling over and over, and she was victorious in that battle. Nala she became :) She also has those perfect Nala eyes.

The male cat is completely adventerous. He's the first at the door whenever anyone comes in. He's really bright and smart. Walks very tough (like Popeye would on all fours). Positively fearless. Rescues his sister all the time. And he's gorgeous. His eyes just make me melt. So we decided on Indy. Although he's "Indiana" when he's in trouble.

Our old dog was a Cooper. The second we saw him, we knew he was a Cooper!

My cat was actually given his name by my former roommate, as he belonged to him. When David decided that his allergies couldn't deal with the cats anymore, Rowan went to live with my parents until I got my own place. I believe he's named after a character in a book or something.

We are a name train family when it comes to our pets.

One cat started at Simba because he looked like a little lion, then became Skimba, Scooza, Scoozy, Cookie, Cookie Monster and is now Mon Mon

Missy because she was a sassy little brat at 8 weeks > Missy P > Missy Pooper > Pooper (she was still a kitten) > Piddles (when she had an accident) > Mushi Tushi > Mushi or Tushi > Moo Moo > Meu Meu

Then there's just Midden Kidden Kitty, Midden for short. No reason, I got him when I was 12 and just decided to name him that. That hasn't changed.

My first cat, Brynner, was named after the man that I was in love with for many years Yul Brynner. Second cat, named after a character in one of Spike Lee's movies - Mookie. Current cat name after Akeelah and the bee. BTW, Dd is named after an old friend's dog:rotfl2:

We named our Corgi "Cooper". We were trying to come up with an "English" name. The day we brought him home, we passed a Cooper Mini. My DH said "Hey! How about Cooper?". The kids agreed, so Cooper it was! Over the years, we've called him "Cooper the little Pooper". It fits! ;)

We have Ziti that we adopted from a cat rescue....she came with that name.....then we adopted 4 littermates in 2008.....continuing the Italian theme we have Alfredo(Alfie), Calamari(Callie), Penne, and Tortellini....therefore when we adopted our beagle puppy last year we went with Bella.....

Our lab got her name from the movie Alien. She did (well still does) snap us with her teeth like the alien in the movie. We named her Ripley.

We were trying to think of 2 names for our Siamese mix kittens we were adopting from petfinder.com. I wanted names that had to do with Thailand (formally Siam.) DH and I were talking about the names and were in line for the Jungle Cruise and I noticed this poster/painting:

So I said how about Lotus? Then Bamboo just popped into my head as well.

Got this online after I picked the names:

The Lotus has a lot of meaning in Thailand (formally Siam.) Five kinds of lotus are mentioned in Thai literature. The flower's rich symbolism has embellished Thai literature since ancient times. The lotus is associated with heavenly beings. The Lotus was also very important in Egypt and they loved their cats! The Lotus flower is held sacred in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Egyptian religions. The Lotus is a type of water lily, which rises from muddy waters to blossom, making it a symbol of purity of the soul within the material world, and an emblem of resurrection.

Bamboo is a very important plant in Thailand (formally Siam.) Bamboo is often used as a metaphor for flexibility and strength. (Bend with the wind. Go with the flow.)Thailand is host to about half of the world's known sympodial bamboos, making the country a rich resource for biologists and plant scientists.

The day we brought home our puppy everyone was throwing out ideas for names none of which seemed to fit this beautiful cream colored golden retriever, so I sat the watched her play and decided since she was so beautifull to name her Bella, she is a princess just like Belle and we already had 3 cats , simba, mickey and disney

My son's dog is named "Kali" after Kali River Rapids. Our older dog came prenamed "Murphy." Not sure why. My dog before him was Rocky. He was named that because he was born with a tumor on his back. He pulled through his surgeries like a fighter...thus, "Rocky."
