How crowded is August?

We've gone to Disney in August quite a few times. We went in 1994, 1997 (25 year celebration), and 2001 (I know Walt's 100 year celebration started that year, but I honestly don't remember if it started while we were there!) All those years we went around the earliest August 17, and came back the latest September 2. The crowds were somewhat crowded, but definitely not that we were packed in with everyone else, as people are saying the crowds have been in July. We had no problem walking around the parks, but a lot of the waits were pretty long. Splash Mountain usually got up to an hour long, and Test Track was always about 2 hours long. But as long as we got to those rides early or used fastpass, we had no problem getting on with low waits. And there were definitely many rides that hardly had any waits. We're going again this August, we're leaving on the 18th. I really hope that crowds are similar to what they've been in past years in late August.

Just another Yankee going at the end of August. We went last year and the crowds didn't seem bad so we decided to go again this year. Here's hoping for all of us lat August people. :cheer2:

Well we just got back Aug.3rd. And while the crowds were pretty big, they did not bother me that much.

Using the obvious touring strategies help alot: getting there for opening, use of FP at ALL times. eating early lunch etc....

I am still amazed to see tons of people walking in at around 11:00 or leaving the resort at around 10:30 for a park....

The heat bothered me way more than the crowds. I have gotten used to them after 3 summer trips. Wish I could say the same for the heat and humidity.

I couldn't believe how crowded it was in early JUNE this year, and that's with many schools still in session.

By late May, most of the Sunbelt schools have closed, and what do you think the families from those states think? "Quick, let's get down to Disney World ASAP before all the schools up North close!!!" Which is why early June has always been a disappointment to people looking for thin crowds.

And as for the weather....being from NJ, well, it's very hot and humid there in the summer. People from the NE aren't strangers to heat and humidity.

Granted, they're not strangers at all, but that doesn't mean they're tolerant of it. Visit the boards here, and look for any posts with titles like "How's October?" or "Tell me about March." They're inevitably written by people from the "Tri-State" region who within the first sentence are asking "is it still/yet hot then? We can't stand the heat yada yada yada."

Does this mean all Northerns avoid WDW like the proverbial plague all summer? No, but it does mean that as that season wears on fewer and fewer are present, and by late August one hears very few Brooklyn or Boston accents while walking around the parks.

We are leaving tomorrow. :cool1: Can't wait to get there. And we are going to have fun. :cheer2: It has been hot here in Delaware, so we are expecting it to be hot in Disney. We are not getting the rain and thunder in Delaware.
