I heard a really strange noise out in the backyard a few minutes ago and went to take a look because I thought one of the neighbors was doing some building or car repair at 8 a.m.

No, that wasn't it. It was this!

Not my photo, btw. It's a Red-bellied Woodpecker and what an odd calling noise they make! Beautiful to look at though, they're about 9 inches long.

Fun way to start the day. :goodvibes

How cool! Beautiful bird!

I've lived in the DFW area my entire life and I'm embarrassed to say I don't ever remember seeing any woodpeckers. I move to this house last year (in between Dallas and Ft. Worth) and they're everywhere! If you walk through the park down the street early morning all you hear are them on the trees. :)

Used to have one of these who lived in my backyard. Beautiful. It is amazing all the wildlife you can find in the city.

We used to have a lot of birds in our trees; woodpeckers (like the one in the pic), blue jays, even cardinals. Now that the trees are gone, it's lonely. :guilty: I have a birdbath in one island and they like to bathe there, but it's not the same without the trees. :guilty:

I can't wait to plant the live oak, maybe that will attract them to our yard again.
