How common are upgrades on cruises

Just wondering if upgrades for members is common on Disney Cruises? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for the info in advance!

well this is my 3rd cruise and the 3rd one WITHOUT an upgrade....

Only been on 1 Disney cruise, got an upgrade from category 10 to 6.
There is truly no detectable pattern to who and why there are upgrades. Trust me, if there was, it would be all over this board.

This is a subject that is always around on these boards.....DCL does upgrade, but it is a random process and no one has figured out how and why DCL does it. You will find many on these boards who have been upgraded (me included....13 DCL cruises....5 upgrades) but overall it is a small percentage of actual overall cruisers.

You could have booked early, booked late
Had a GTY or an assigned cabin
Been in a low category, been in a higher category
Paid off cruise early, paid off cruise at due date
You could a first time cruiser or a repeater.....etc...

There is no rhyme or real reason other than possibly moving folks from the less expensive categories to the higher cost categories to make room for more people to book at lower cost (the cat 10's, 11's & 12's seem to get upgraded the most).

6 cruises cats 10 and 11, no upgrades. Best advice I have seen on these boards is book what you will be happy with.

our first cruise we booked a cat 11 on deck six and were very happy with it. we were hardly in our room except to sleep and then we were glad that we had no light coming through a window that might wake us up. For our up coming cruise we have also booked a cat 11 on deck six { we really liked that central location} we're always joking that we will be upgraded to deck 2 where we are not so centrally located. though we would never turn down an up grade because we would like to eventually try all the catagories, it is very good advice that you book what you will be happy with. If you get an up grade then a little bit more pixy dust was sprinkled on your vacation.
