How come DVC members staying on points only get Housekeeping every 4 days?

One thing I have been wondering is why do DVC member staying on points only get Housekeeping service every 4 days or whatever the exact number is?

Timeshares typically do not give daily or even any housekeeping. To do so would require a substantial increase in annual dues. You can purchase it separately for any or more days you are there but it is expensive.

And truthfully, most people do not "miss" daily housekeeping. Most people don't change their sheets and towels daily at home. I prefer not to have housekeeping in the room daily.

I think it helps to think of DVC as your "home away from home". At your real home, you make your own bed each day (if you so choose), clean up after yourself, wash your own towels as often as you need them, etc. I think DVC allows you to use your villa as yours without the risk of having someone come in. I enjoy knowing that no one will be in my villa.

I was surprised how easily we adapted to the DVC way with housekeeping. In fact on our last split stay we were in a 1 BR for only 4 nights so I told mousekeeping that we wouldn't need them to clean but could use some wash cloths and shampoo. The mousekeeper also gave us bars of soap. And she was quite happy to mark our villa as done.

It was just nice to know that no one would be coming into our villa. Our villas are our place for a bit of quiet and privacy.

We don't miss the daily cleaning - but we do however miss fresh towels, since we tend to shower more on vacation due to chlorine - excessive sweat - freshening up before dinner etc etc -

We love having a washer and a dryer in the room - we are able to wash our clothes and our towels so usually we have good supply of towels after we 'relocate' a few - and do our first load of laundry!

But we don't miss the daily clean-up - it's actually good to know that no one will be in your room - no one will knock in the early AM - and you don't have to worry about straightening up every morning or locking up valuables.

Then don't make your bed. Of course, that would drive me nuts as I prefer to get into a made up bed at night.

For most properties, the labor costs of cleaning rooms is close to the (if not the) most expensive line item in operations, and it's something that is fairly easy to live without. So, nearly all timeshares (including DVC) choose to do without. Many don't even have the midweek trash and tidy.

And the irony is that before we joined DVC, I never would have expected to feel this way. The lack of daily housekeeping was a sticking point that contributed to us not considering DVC for years. Finally we joined, comforted by the knowledge that we could get daily maid service if we paid for it. What were we thinking?

Like the rest, I too thought I would miss daily housekeeping, but I didn't. I actually love not having it. I can go back mid-day and not have to worry about someone being there, or showing up. I also don't make my bed every day.......actually my husband does. He does it every day at home and does it on vacation. It's just something he always does. We actually just returned 2 weeks ago from a regular resort stay using the FD bounceback we booked last year. Every morning I would come out of the shower and my DH was making the bed. I kept reminding him that we did have housekeeping during the trip, but he didn't want them to think we were not tidy!

Getting fresh towels on day 4 is a luxury for us, as we only wash them at home at the end of the week!

We have gotten so used to not having Housekeeping come into the rooms that we typically leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our regular hotel rooms all the time now!

If we need the room serviced, we'll leave the sign off, but most of our stays are under 4 nights and we're so used to not needing servicing for that long anyway.

It's so nice not to have to worry about having someone in your temporary space. It just makes me feel slightly more secure, even when there's nothing in the room to worry about!

...Because it's a vacation villa....not a hotel room.

Personally.....I like the fact of not having to worry when are they coming....and that noone will be in my room.

I like not having to worry about there being someone cleaning the room when we return in the afternoon. I don't have someone clean my house everyday, so I am fine living the same way on vacation.

I agree this was also a sticking point for us. Somehow it seemed crazy that we would have to clean our own room, but I agree with nearly everyone one here......don't miss it and actually like not having it. Never thought I would say that!

So don't! No one forces you to do that. I like my bed made, so I make it as soon as I get up and home, and I do the same at DVC.

we actually have done the same pre-dvc....we don't make or leave messes at home, so the resort room is always clean anyway. we don't want/need someone else coming in to do the same things we already did
