How close are you to your breaking point?

I am an RN and on my 3rd week of furlough, looking at at least 4 weeks. I'm ready to go back to work.

I understand the concept of "stay at home" but when or who decides we're at the point to cancel it? I feel like this whole process has been made up as we go along. There is no guarantee a vaccine will be available in 18 months. It took 3 years for the fastest vaccine to be created.

A few things that I've realized staying home: I can save a lot of money not just going to the store for 1 thing and buying 20 (not surprising), I don't mind spending the day at home (I used to have to leave the house at some point during the day), I will never homeschool, and tell my children to get a job that can be worked from home.

My family is 2 hours away and I miss them, I haven't seen them since before the super bowl.

Also, thank the lord I don't live in an apartment or large city.

Well, one family in NJ had 4 deaths from a family party when this was just getting ramped up. 🤷‍♂️
And yet they can still see close family in their stay at home order guidelines. It’s a risk we all had to consider. Family who are exposed or at risk didn’t come (or weren’t invited). Those who came were all adults with the exception of my DS & his 7 year old cousin & were capable of making their own decisions.

Oh I’m not worried about who likes him or not. People turned this pandemic into a partisan issue and that’s what’s made this whole thing way worse to communicate about.

Hopefully we can move to phase 1 in 2 weeks. We shall see.
Lol. I didn’t think you meant that. I only said that b/c I was criticizing him (somewhat).

We're fine I suppose. I get to work from home, which I don't really enjoy but I feel fortunate I get to work without putting others at risk. Dh is in the grocery industry and has to go to various stores for work and I wish he didn't. I would frankly be willing to forgo his pay to keep him from doing so, but he wants to be able to contribute and takes all the precautions available to him. I find the whole situation stressful but for me that's more the enormity of what's happening than the actual stay at home order. Because dh actually works in grocery stores I haven't even run errands for weeks and it bothers me less than I would have thought being confined to our home.

There are a lot of things I miss and a lot of things I've missed out on and I know everything in life involves risk, but at this moment I would just feel terrible if someone got seriously sick because I got tired of not going out to brunch. Once the proper equipment to deal with all this is more readily available I may feel different but I don't see how I feel changing simply with the passage of time. I feel like the actual situation would have to change significantly for me to feel different

I miss my mom & dad. My mom lives alone & is depressed. My 90 year old grandpa lives home alone & me & other family members take care of him. I do his medicine & pay his bills. I keep my distance & don't stay long. He is lonely. He's on dialysis 3x a week so I'm worried he will catch it and/or I will get it & pass it on to my family. This is a nightmare.

I'm good. I have worked from home for the past 3 weeks and we are now all back in the office. No non-employees have been allowed in the building for well over a month. Our office is big with only a few people so keeping 2m apart is easy. Company has supplied cleaning products to wipe down desks and surfaces so our cleaners can focus on the communal areas. If you are feeling sick, you are not allowed to come to work and get 10 working days pay to stay home or are cleared to return by a doctor with a negative test result. My family are all introverts, so other than missing a few birthday gatherings (we did skype parties) not much has changed. DD is missing dance and swimming, but still keeps in contact with her friends through Xbox and Facetime. House and yard never looked better :rotfl2:

:scratchin Whatever you folks in BC are doing, it seems to be working, although I just can't discern how it's different than anywhere else in the country. Your cases emerged early and grew fast but now, comparative to your population, it seems to be well in hand.

BC is very lucky to have Dr. Bonnie Henry. There is a great article in the G&M which highlights some of the minor differences her and Health Minister Dix made, but have had a huge difference. She ENCOURAGES us to get out and got for walks in parks, just keep 2 meters from non household members is one of the big ones. Treating us like adults and showing us the data they are modelling their policies after. People on the majority have been very compliant. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/can...Mgx_WuR2wqY0Lg_H8Qw-c_CYrfOUfLOkLkpsSi_JUm0J4

I just wanted take a moment to point out a common theme among most everyone that is posting on this thread: loss and fear.
Everyone has it and it's not a contest of who deserves it. At this point we all are managing to best we can. Please, please if you think you need someone to talk with or see check out local resources in your area. Many states are setting up emergency tele health for those that need somewhere to talk about all that is going. If you need help finding something in your state, let me know and we can research together. Please all take care of yourselves.

I cracked a little. I thought I was doing just fine, except that I missed my sister terribly. We were texting back and forth a little while ago, just shootin' the breeze like we do most days, and me checking up on her added in because she's struggling with this whole thing. So after about a half-hour or so of texting she texts, I have a secret. I thought she was going to let me in on maybe one of her girls was pregnant or something. Go onto your porch.

I come downstairs and open the front door to a handwritten note and these:
pmhsHoznj

They were from her, and since the note was handwritten, she had to have been there! I immediately called her up sobbing, both to thank her and sobbing because she was soooo close to me and I didn't see her. She told me she and her husband had to do some shopping in my area. She *ran up our front slope,* put the flowers down and ran back down and they sped away.

I don't know why but this was two hours ago and I cannot stop crying. I took an Ativan, but I may need a couple more, I guess.

So I have a question for those not visiting friends & family, do you plan until there is a vaccine or cure before you see them again?

I don't really know. Too many in our family are at higher risk. So, no, as restrictions are eased, we are not going to rush back to gathering together in a hurry. I think for us we need to see a sharp and sustained decline in the number of cases before we feel like we can be together.

@BlueStarryHat you definitely deserved this, and I don’t consider it a crack at all:love2:

That's its own version of panic button, though - reacting to what is expected to happen, rather than what actually does. People in my state were sure we'd see a huge spike in cases because of the Lansing protests... a projection that so far hasn't come true, and after 12 days, we should at least be seeing some signs if it was going to. Wisconsin was expected to seek big spikes related to the April 7 election; so far, they've identified a few dozen cases in people who worked the polls or voted in person and the fears of a rapid rise in spread appear unfounded.

Now the prognostication has shifted to the states that have reopened beaches and parks, as well as to those relaxing business restrictions. Only time will tell whether the dire warnings related to those things will prove founded but it is probably safe to say that if they don't, the "sky is falling" crowd will simply move on to the next target rather than reconsidering whether the facts justify their level of fear.
This is where we draw different conclusions. The risk is in undetected transmission chains; community spread. I see, "The election caused a few dozen cases," and big warning signs go off in my head. They were looking for potential cases like a hawk, and they found them via testing and could stop the chain in its tracks. I'd assume that at least some of those people involved in the election were concerned about the potential of getting infected and spreading it, and so they self-isolated, which also stopped the transmission chain.

It's another example that extreme social distancing, and "trace & isolate" works. It doesn't demonstrate that in a less restrictive environment the virus won't spread rapidly. I assume people were really trying to "be safe" and still at least... Hmm, I'm seeing both 36 people statewide, and 40 in Milwaukee County, so the numbers are still growing.... 40 people got infected.

The epidemiologists studying the genetic signatures of the original introduction into the US, found 9 points in New York, 1-2 in Seattle/Vancouver, 1 in Santa Clara, 1 in Chicago, 1 in Phoenix. They expect there are more, but they haven't been identified, but we're still talking about "a few dozen." So if the Wisconsin election "only" led to a few dozen, I see that as even worse than where we started from with the original infection, because the original was "a few dozen" nationwide, and not a "few dozen" in one state, or one city (Milwaukee).

If people want to put me in "the sky is falling," camp, I'm okay with that. As an introvert, who doesn't work and has no kids, I am doing fine with the restrictions. Natural habitat and all. But the thing that really upsets me, is how many people keep underestimating the dangers of this virus, and therefore will find themselves overwhelmed and unprepared when our future unfolds. You know all the angst we feel for our DISboard peeps' friends and family who show up at WDW with no Fastpasses and no dining reservations? Only this time, the stakes are a lot higher.

Texas is starting the slow reopening that some here have mentioned this Friday. Malls, restaurants, retail and theaters can reopen but only at 25% capacity for two weeks. Parks are already open and libraries and museums can also open if they wish but again at a maximum of 25% capacity. If the numbers look good after two weeks the capacity can be increased to 50%. Rural counties with few cases can already start at 50%.

I hope that this works. I think that I'll continue to stay home until we know more.

I read several articles related to possible Covid19 exposure from the Wisconsin election.
Of poll workers that tested positive after the election.... some of the poll workers stated that they had other possible exposures and couldn't be certain it was due to the election.
Unless the poll worker (and any members of their household) stayed self isolated prior to working the election, it is difficult to know 100% where the exposure happened.

I am hoping that’s what we will do in Louisiana in 2 weeks. I was hoping it would be today, but we still have too many new cases I guess.
