How close are you to your breaking point?

We've also seen people who want a haircut and their nails done, and want their dogs groomed, etc etc etc. Maybe now's a good time to become a little less high maintenance.

Sorry to disappoint you, but we don't have Netflix, Hulu or Apple TV, just good ol-fashioned cable. We don't even have a DVR. ;)

I knew people would be defensive because they don't like being called out on their behavior that puts other people at risk. :magnify:
I’m not defensive b/c I haven’t done anything that puts other ppl at risk imo. As far as the above services, wanting those things & finding a way to get them “illegally” are 2 different things. So when things do open legally, it’s your opinion those ppl who participate in them are being selfish?

To the first part, people here are getting frustrated because we’re having things taken away that are no fault of our own. We were just about to get the ability to get our parks back, when people went crazy at beaches in the southern part of our state over the weekend. Here too, but not as bad - but the ones they talked to up here were from out of county. So our county has the toughest restrictions, that we’re having to keep because outsiders are ruining it for us. Even rule followers are starting to lose their patience. So even though I said a few days ago that I was doing ok, now I’m angry. There is a park I can walk to that’s great for exercise and now it looks like we won’t get it back anytime soon. And I really miss seeing my mom!

That's its own version of panic button, though - reacting to what is expected to happen, rather than what actually does. People in my state were sure we'd see a huge spike in cases because of the Lansing protests... a projection that so far hasn't come true, and after 12 days, we should at least be seeing some signs if it was going to. Wisconsin was expected to seek big spikes related to the April 7 election; so far, they've identified a few dozen cases in people who worked the polls or voted in person and the fears of a rapid rise in spread appear unfounded.

Now the prognostication has shifted to the states that have reopened beaches and parks, as well as to those relaxing business restrictions. Only time will tell whether the dire warnings related to those things will prove founded but it is probably safe to say that if they don't, the "sky is falling" crowd will simply move on to the next target rather than reconsidering whether the facts justify their level of fear.

Louisiana extended to May 15th.
I was going to post earlier when you said it expires 4/30 that I thought it was probably going to be extended b/c a friend told me that was the rumor. And that is precisely why we chose to see family b/c who knows how long they’ll continue to do this.

You already said your routine and life haven't changed much. Sitting there judging those who have had to endure serious life changes is not a good look.

You guys are so behind the times. KC extended to 5/15 a week ago. ;)

I meant to ask you have you seen all the controversy over the differing days? Especially that scandal regarding that reporter that was secretly invited to that private phone conference between KC metro leaders?

In NJ you are allowed to visit family and friends with whom you have a close relationship, including romantic partners.

NJ has no opening date. Our governor doesn’t expect opening anything for several weeks.

I’m in south jersey. We don’t have many cases. Not all of NJ is like northern NJ.

I did hear they were losing support from some counties but didn't hear the whole story. I'd love to know. PM me or send me a link?

What happened to the idea of closed social circles? If my mom were 15 mins away id want her in my circle, would ensure no outside exposure & hug my mom.

its the 2500 miles between us that makes it iimpossible.
Because our SIP says we can’t. We are to stay with our own households only.

Now there is a grey area in ours. It says taking care of elderly relatives does count as essential. Does that mean only their physical health or can it mean their mental/emotional health as well? So far, it hasn’t been answered for us. But I know my parents are mentally starting to feel the effects of isolation, especially my step dad who has worked since he was 14 and lost his job with this (he retired and then immediately went back to work because he was bored).

Yeah, south jersey has done really well through this. Sad that you guys have to deal with the same restrictions - kinda like upstate NY dealing with the same restrictions. The NY Metro area has been slammed, and that threat is real, but some of the rural counties in the area are almost unscathed.

Pretty sure family isn’t a problem if everyone has been self isolating. If a person has been out and about they should stay in for what, 14 days, before seeing anyone outside of the home.

That’s my understanding anyway. Maybe I’m wrong.

My state expires on 4/30 and I expect an announcement any day to extend until May 15, then another before May 15 for another 2 weeks, and so on. They will try to keep the masses calm with shorter periods but it will be hard to keep people contained once the weather improves. The hospitals in my area are not overwhelmed and are furloughing people, but there seems to be a one-size fits all approach to this.

Yes and no. It was announced as a plan last week. This weekend happened, our Gov held a press conference today and our authorities have now issued a statement that they’re re-evaluating the future order because of it, which needs to come out by Fri.

So in general, I agree with you, but in this specific case it’s not me just panic button reacting. It’s been said. But I will acknowledge I didn’t clearly state that in my previous post.

ETA: unless you’re talking about officials and not me personally.

It depended on how one's stay at home order was formulated, who was in your social circle when you started the distancing procedures, what your pattern is like, etc

My mom, aunt, and uncle are caretakers for my other aunt they are her social circle depite not being in the same household.

My sister-in-law moved in with her dad (my father-in-law) because her boyfriend was going out of town frequently to take care of his brother who is addicted to prescription drugs so now her dad, her dad's wife, the wife's 2 children and the girlfriend of one of the children are included in my sister-in-law's social circle.

My other sister-in-law frequented my mother-in-law's residence enough that she was included in her social circle though she's engaging in way too risky of behavior and none of us feel comfortable being around her anymore. My husband and I haven't been around that sister for months at this point.

My husband and I are in our own household and do not have anyone included in our social circle technically (well other than our cat lol).

We've talked briefly in the driveway with some of the family members with a very large berth between us when supplies are being dropped off or picked up. But no close contact yet.

And that’s the thing, different states have different rules. Is visiting close family any less dangerous in NJ than in LA? Highly doubt it. So that is part of my rationalization for doing it.

Some stay at home orders certianly seem more reasonsble than others. There is no reason for this to be more restrictive tgan it has to be. I wish there were clearer messaging & more uniformity among states.

And there are plenty of people who just don’t listen or pay attention. I’m watching this press conference and the reporters are asking the governor to clarify stuff he’s been saying daily for weeks. He literally cannot win no matter what he tries to do.
