When I got to work today and got ready to call MS, I pulled up myDVC on my computer and was astounded to find the reservations for Saratoga Springs already there. I called and there was no fire, no maintenance issues. Disney made a mistake. Pure and simple. Bob the manager admitted it was human error, but that there was nothing that he could do about it now. He sounded very sympathetic to my feelings. He only found out about it himself at 2:30 yesterday. He said he scrambled to get us in a HA grand villa at SSR. Even though I didn't ask, he even gave me the name of the person that made the mistake. When I made the reservation, they put me on hold and called special needs. Special needs confirmed the room was available and put a block on it. They keyed in the wrong room number. I was supposed to get 4815 I think and they blocked out 4814 which isn't a grand villa I guess, and doesn't have handicapped access. I was almost willing to go to a non-handicapped access grand villa just so that my SIL could get in, but after reading the post by another person in a wheel chair, I almost choked when I got to the part where they said that handicappled people are "used to being disppointed". They state that SSR is really very handicap accessible. But I kept going back in my mind of the big, sunny, open rooms at OKW, and the big porches, and the full size washer and dryer, etc. I asked for (2) 2-bedroom units at OKW instead. He said the best he could do was (1) 2-bedroom and (1) 1-bedroom. And he wasn't sure if they would be HA. That really wouldn't do. So I asked if he could get us into the Springs so that we'd be closer to the zero entry pool, etc. He tried, and called me back and said, no he couldn't do that either. So we are still at SSR in the original site he picked out for us. I told him at the VERY least, could the rooms please be ready early so that we can make our move go smoothy. I think they must know the room number already, but he said he didn't. He did upgrade me,my husband, my son, and his friend from a Studio on the Saturday coming in and the Saturday going out. We'll have the Grand Villa between the Saturdays for the relatives. So:
1. Mistakes happen
2. They bent over backwards to ease my disappointment
3. They can't pull an OKW HA Grand Villa out of a rabbits hat.
So what am I going to do? Make the best of it. If I stay angry and hurt, I won't enjoy the vacation, and I might interfere with some one elses good time if I continue to complain. All I am saying to my family is, I'm sorry, I'm truly embarrassed, SSR is supposed to be an upgrade. And leave it at that.
As far as the All Stars comment. I have nothing against All Stars. I've never been there. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I always see the All Stars busses so packed and so many throngs of people waiting, that I assume people go to the All Stars because they can't get into the moderates or deluxes for one reason or another. SSR, I have a feeling, will be just that way. It seems to me that there will always be room available at SSR. Maybe that's not such a bad thing. How about the last minute plans, where nothing would be available at all if the SSR wasn't there. Last night in my anger I saw all kind of greedy
DVC people and cunning SSR people. But now that I am calmed down, they look like ordinary human people running a vacation club the best way they know how.
You know what would be nice? If we could see the rooms like you can sometimes see the seats on a plane. See whats occupied and what's not. What's blocked for that day and so on.
Whatever. I am satisfied that this is a one time thing and nothing against handicapped people's rights, as they are willing to give us a handicapped villa, not just where we reserved it. I'm still not sure that this isn't some kind of ploy for a chance to sell more SSR to my family members, but I'm not going to let it bother me.
TWO MORE DAYS!!!!
