We are a soon to be family of 6! We love studios and have no problem sharing space (though I realize that could change a bit as the kids grow). Right now we own at AKL which is becoming a problem because the studios only sleep 4. We’ll be able to get away with studios that sleep 5 until the baby turns 3 but I’m thinking ahead to when we really count as 6 humans.

What do you families of 6 usually do? Two bedrooms are SO many points! I’m wondering if two studios make more sense. We are also going to try out the FW cabins on a future trip since those sleep 6 but I have a feeling we won’t want to do that all the time.

Is it bad that one of my first thoughts upon finding out baby #4 was on the way was “uh oh, going to need more DVC points!!”? 🤪

A 2BD will give you a kitchen, which is very helpful if you want to save money by having some meals/snacks in the room. It’s also really nice to have 3 distinct spaces to separate your kids if needs be.

I’m a HUGE fan of a 2BD and even prefer 1BD over studios 99.995% of the time.

2 br. lock offs are just a studio + a 1 br. so you can get your studio fix when you book a lock off 2 br. & all the 2 br.s at Jambo are lock offs.
Seriously, once you have that full kitchen + the washer/dryer that comes with a 1 or 2 br. I suspect your attachment to studios will become a fond memory as you relax in all that space & once the kids start reaching their teen years & you utilize that 3rd bathroom in the Kidani 2 br.s you’ll wonder how you ever managed to fit into those small studios.
The good news is that AKV points are pretty reasonable on the resale market ATM. 😆

Try a 2BR (or even a 3BR) at Wyndham Bonnet Creek. Plenty of space, just about as close as being on property, much cheaper than the equivalent at a Disney resort, and you can rent out your AKL points to help pay for it.

There are also 2 bthrms in one b/r units at at least BWV and Kidani @AKL. If you can add a studio to it you’ll be amazed how much more comfortable the space is for 6 people. You’ll also have a washer/ dryer in the one b/r.

I think you mean BLT and Kidani. The BWV 1BR most definitely do not have 2 bathrooms, unfortunately. And I think the new Poly Tower 1BR also have 2 bathrooms.

I so needed that correction. Would have made a horrible mistake come Thanksgiving and put a family member with several offspring in the wrong room 🙏🏾.

We're 5 not six, even so, we do 2 bdrms. Great to have more space and even better for have a W/D. Did not realize what a game changer that would be....

We stayed at 2BR that have lower points, AKV Standard/OKW, to offset the higher points amount. Also 1BR AKV (except values) or OKW has a 2nd pull out chair bed and will sleep 5 plus 1 under 3. That would be a good option for a few years before you need to move to 2BR. OKW has a very large living room area.

Congratulations!! The problem with two studios, with the exception the resort studios at BPK @VGF and PVB deluxe studios, they do not connect and may not even be near each other.

So, more DVC points for your 2 bedroom is the way to go!!! Lol

Is it possible to book connecting (I guess "lock off") studios at BPK or PVB? Or do you just book two studios and ask member services to request connecting studios?

They will not guarantee that so it remains a request. At PVB, IIRC, almost all studios connect so % is high you will get it.

At BPK, there are more that don’t connect. We did not get them when we stayed once.

Sorry, you can't book them, only request them. All Studios at PVB connect (except a very few, like maybe 4), so a request there has a high chance of fulfillment but of course can't be guaranteed. I'm not sure what the chances are at BPK.

@Sandisw , jinx!

Before he was born, we nick-named our #4 kiddo "2 Bedroom". Have done 2 adjoining studios at BPK, which was nice and much more affordable than a 2BR, but now we mostly go for 2BR's.

Love the full-sized fridge and especially the washer/dryer in the room. Seems like we do wash multiple times a day -- usually for various yucky kid related reasons.

Congratulations!!
Thanks so much

Ooo I didn’t realize this, thanks for letting me know. Two studios far apart would be very difficult!

HA I love this and will be stealing it!!

Thanks all! We have done 1 bedrooms before and the washer/drier was definitely nice to have so that’s something to look forward to. Guess it’s time to start saving for more points!!!

We are a family of 6, plus two dogs which should really count as two more people each.

When the 6 of us go to WDW, it's 2 bdrm villas minimum (although we can force ourselves into a Poly Bungalow), or multiple villas. When we stayed at FW Cabins, I booked two cabins for the 6 of us plus the dogs... very convenient.

We have 6 as its 2 kids plus the grandparents come with for Disney. We are always doing 2 bedrooms. With just 2 kids we would be doing at minimum a 1br.

I think you will really like having at least some alone time with your partner.

2 bedrooms are great because you have the full kitchen and living area. It really changes the vacation and also gives you a way to save a little money if you want to eat in the room a couple times (even a frozen pizza is easy to make and is a big savings one night).

The 2 studios will save you money but outside of Poly there really isn't any rooms that connect and even at Poly even though everyone always gets it I would be worried we wouldn't be connecting and now you have a room that is empty because you can't have young kids by themselves in a hotel room.

The Ft Wilderness cabins might actually be a good compromise. The point chart is way better than most of the 2 bedroom ones, and they sleep six. Parents could take the sofa bed (and thus stay up later) and put all four kids in the bedroom. Still have a kitchen, but laundry is by the pools. Lots of activities, and the boat to MK is almost an attraction on its own.
