How can I sell an extra ticket for The Lion King on Broadway?

In October I purchase 5 tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway in June; they are pretty good seats, front row center of the balcony. My soon-to-be ex-husband will not be joining us on the trip and I hate to eat the cost of the ticket/could really use the extra cash. Is there a way I can safely/legally sell this one ticket? What are my chances of just selling the one?

Thanks for any suggestions you can share!

Sorry about your marriage. Are your kids going? Maybe one of their friends would like to come along and purchase the ticket from you. Are any of you on Facebook? I'd post it there.

I cannot imagine selling 1 ticket to anyone but someone you know . I agree w/ pp. try fb

My kids and daughter's BF are going on the trip with me (This was the original group, minus the EX). We are staying a week and I don't have the money or the space to bring another friend, just for the cost of the ticket. We'd need a bigger room, more food, etc. It's a source of contention with my husband (the fact that no one wants him to go on the trip), so I'd rather not broadcast anything on FB. We don't really know anyone in NYC either, so I have no one to ask to join us.

Thanks for your kind words. A divorce wasn't in my life's plan, but some things are out of my control and the end result will be a blessing for the kids and I; it's just a b%@#* to go thru.

Maybe your hotel concierge can help? Or, you can put on CL in Manhattan and sell it while you are there.

How about brining a friend/relative as a birthday gift? If not, stubhub is a place to sell tix.

If not, stubhub is a place to sell tix.

I have sold tickets to a play (Chicago) on Stub Hub before as well as bought numerous tickets from them. Both processes are easy. However it may be difficult to sell just one ticket. Stub Hub does charge to both buy/sell, 10% if I remember correctly.

I would also recommend posting it on Craigslist or StubHub.

You may certainly be able to sell the ticket for the cost you paid (as you said, the seat is very good), but I think you will likely increase your chances if you lower the price to slightly below what you paid. If it were me, I would post on both sites for the full price, and then lower the cost if after a couple of weeks the ticket hadn't sold.

Obviously not ideal to sell for less than it's worth, but it sure beats eating the full cost of the ticket.

Plenty of people enjoy the theatre alone. Especially if OP offered a modest discount, I know I'd jump at a good seat for a show locally.

I live in NYC and there are always lots of people waiting outside of the theatres to purcahase tickets. You may not get all the face value, but most times you will. Bring the extra ticket with you , and it will sold in a matter of minutes

You could sell it on Craigslist or stub hub but for a single ticket, you'd need to make it a great deal and you will recoup some money but probably need to take a loss. Better to get something instead of nothing.

Have you tried to call the theater directly? I haven't bought tickets directly from the window in years because I always find great shows at TKTS but I know years ago they would sell tickets for people who had problems and couldn't show (illness etc...) for 1/2 price the day of the show. Or maybe if you explain your situation they can reimburse you and re-sell the ticket. That show is hard to get tickets to so I am sure it can be re-sold.

Most people don't go to shows by themselves and most buyers are looking for 2 or more seats together.

Not true, lots of people go to shows by themselves and this doesn't answer the question of why you would not sell a ticket to someone you don't know. Additionally, if you're buying last minute theater tickets and you need more than one, you sometimes have to take whatever seats you can get (i.e., not near each other).

To the above poster, Broadway theater tickets are non-refundable.

I too would go to a show alone. I got a fabulous price on a front row ticket for an outdoor performance of one of my favorite comics because they only had the one seat to sell, so they lowered the price.

OP here...it is legal for me to sell the ticket out in front of the theater, correct, as long as I don't ask for more than face value?
