How can I sell a fake handbag?

Put it in a yard sale and disclose that it is a fake. I wouldn't sell it online at all.
Not judging but I wonder why it would be okay to sell a fake designer bag at a yard sale when it is illegal to sell couterfeit items in the US? Does it matter if you disclose that it's not a real bag? Or that you're less likely to be discovered by selling it at a garage sale than you are if you sell it on ebay?

It does matter if you disclose? Imagine any other illegal item that could be sold, does telling people that it is illegal make it ok?

Sellers at a flea market in my area were recently arrested. Are you going to get arrested at your garage sale? Probably not. But I do my best not to associate myself with goods that are illegal and are easily linked to organized crime, human trafficking, child labor, terrorism, etc. Not worth it for the $5 that you might make.

Could you give it to either a little girl for playing dress up? Or maybe a young teen, just to carry it? I know either of my dd's would have fun with it, and kids wouldn't care if it was authentic.

Just curious about this. I see "fake" bags for sale at the Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other thrift stores all the time. How do they get away with it? It doesn't really bother me. I've bought a few fakes in my time.... not because I'm big on designer bags or anything.... mostly because I just liked the particular bag.

Also, another question for those of you in the know.... I have a "Coach" bag that I bought at a yard sale this past summer. I put "Coach" in quotes because the woman I bought it from told me repeatedly that it was real, but I have no experience with these things and have NO WAY of telling. I just bought it because I liked it. If I decided to sell it, how could I find out if it was real? Obviously I have no paperwork or receipt. We do have a local Coach outlet. If I took it in there could they tell me if it was real?

TIA........................P

It's probably real. Coach isn't that big of a deal anymore.

Look inside the bag on the sides and see if you can find a Coach serial number. I haven't bought Coach in many years but every Coach I've ever purchased has a serial number and I registered the bag with Coach. I don't know if the newer bags have serial numbers or not.

Bring it to the Coach store and see what they say. They should be able to tell you.

Give the bag away or toss. Its not worth it otherwise.

Goodwill etc all sell fake handbags a lot. Ours tends to always have fake Kate Spade. I think they sell it just because it gets donated. I do not think they have the staff to worry about that kind of stuff until they have to. Case in point - the goodwill that was selling boxes of random paperwork containing people's ss numbers, checking account info and more. They are now supposedly working on that problem.

Craigslist or not, I would not encouage anyone to sell anything that is clearly "fake" by their own admission (for those who don't know, it's a federal crime to sell counterfiet merchandise in this country).

Don't believe me? Go to www.ice.gov and check-out "counterfeit merchandise"...

:thumbsup2

Yeah, anyone know what happened to Sandy and Ocsar? Did they just pay the $100 per month, or try to fight it further?

I don't have a problem with them selling the bags, but when they are fake they are trying to make a huge profit from them. That is so wrong since it is a fake bag. Not many do they carry that are real.

A twice zombie thread - OP from 2011, and then someone brought it back in 2013.

It always gives me a little bit of a chuckle when I see a fake at the thrift store priced super high because there's usually a high quality real bag there too and they don't know because it's no plastered with a logo print.

I learned how to tell fake in Coach, and Dooney and Bourke. And every time I walked in see how much they would sell them for , a fake I could literally roll my eyes. I learned a long time ago that some of the thrift store owners buy from estate sales, and even estate sales will sell fake as well. Glad I am not the only one who notices all this stuff in thrift stores. And don't get me started on the more expensive line ones which are harder to detect for authenticity. Sorry not trying to steal OP thread.
