no offense to the kid with the banana but i don't know him nor do i want him there, i don't mind the "background people" but i would like to keep the focus on us

i have the following programs to work with
picassa from google( not much to do there)
microsoft picture it
microsoft digital image editor,

i tried this last one and can erase up to his legs, but then what?

any help advice is greatly appreciated

You can select your main subjects, invert the selection and then use a Gaussian blur to blur the background in a layer. But I don't think that is possible with those programs.

You could always download Paint Shop Pro trail version and use it......

Hi there
I was just browsing around the DIS and found your post
hope the picture looks better this way :goodvibes
(let me know if you like it and have it saved to your pc, please)
there are still people in the background, just not banana guy :teeth:

That is a hard one alright. The problem with what you are trying to do is whenever you take something out, you have to replace it with something. If your background is complicated like yours is, it can be done by a talented individual, but it probably won't look natural.

Abstract backgrounds like sky, grass, trees, etc are the easiest. My wife who knows very little about photoshop did this to one of my son's cub scouts pictures. We just took out the kid in the background by replacing him with grass, trees, etc.

I like that edit Patnl34

another option Mrs.viv07 you could remove the family and put them back into any background you took.

WOW that is amazing!!!

what did you use to do that? i guess i am going to have to invest so $$ if i want to be able to do that in the future!

Wow! Great job. Some day I need to learn how to do that.

Maybe you just need to get rid of the banana and improvise.

Option 1: copy the background, flip it, layer it on top, erase the foreground

flipwp2.jpg

To make this believable, you need to pay attention to the vanishing point when positioning the flipped image. Here you can match the curb on the right with the little bit of curb on the right. Also, try not to duplicate people or objects that aren't there. The clone tool in Photoshop is your friend here. The clone tool can also be used to randomize the street here a bit so the copy and flip doesn't look so obvious.

You'll notice I've broken this rule with the person in the grey shirt but not the lady with the orange/tan shirt. I've also created a torsoless skirt on the left. The trashcan and tree is duplicated but thats okay because they probably are there and it's conceivable they could be there. It's the details that make this technique believable. The above is an example of doing it half-assed in about 20 seconds.

Option 2: crop it

Everybody has a photo of the family in front of the park weenie and it's always centered. ***yawn***. Take lemons and make lemonade.

Also, look at the bright side, at least this guy wasn't in the photo:

personally i think the torso-less skirt adds some interest and think of the conversations it would illicit if someone didn't know it was touched up:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :) :) :)
