I saw on a crowd calendar that in May 2017 there will be cheer comp the weeks we are going (May6th-13th). It still shows for the lightest crowd level but how busy will it be? Does it even affect the crowd levels that much?

I went last year during the end of April and stayed at All Star Sports (last week of April). I don't think the parks were extra crowded because of the cheer comp but if you are staying at one of the All Star Resorts, good luck. During my stay it was over run by loud teenagers. I made the mistake of not booking a preferred room and was stuck on the 3rd floor in the hops section facing the field where they were quite loud. Security was called several times because of loud music. It was quite hectic and I would never stay there again during the same time as them. Buses to and from the parks weren't bad but the bus from Disney Springs was very crowded and very loud. By the end of the week I was so ready to go home, never happened before.

I remember seeing posts about the noise levels at All Stars. We are staying at AKV, hopefully it wont be cray there. I was worried about the park crowds, happy to hear they aren't really affected.

We were in WDW during this event a few years back, and we hardly noticed it at all. There were some cheer groups in the parks, but none were obnoxious and there really weren't that many. There were also some on DME with us, and they all got off at All Stars. As others have said, unless you're staying at All Stars, you probably won't notice them much.

I never noticed a difference in crowd levels, but, there certainly was an increase in annoyance level. If you are at the same resort be prepared for constant "Cheer" practice. Outside, in rooms, in the food court, by the pool and even in the parks, but at least in the park you can just walk past them. They're not terrible, but, are loud and don't really have the ability to know when it is not a good time to be "cheerful".

Where did you find crowd calendar that far out? Was looking for an April 2017 one but couldn't find on easywdw yet. Thanks!

I was there this past May for the last weekend of their competition. I was really worried about this because I know I wouldn't like the extra noise. I changed my resort from Pop to CBR. They were staying at both, but CBR was the higher tier resort so not as many of them stayed there. It turned out to be a non-problem, however I still don't think I would stay at any of the values while they are there especially not Sports. I had a rental car so I didn't worry about buses but I do remember being annoyed in the parks not because of loud cheering, but because they tend to travel with the whole cheer team at a time and it would sometimes be hard to navigate around them.

My daughter is a cheerleader and we were at our first competition in Disney this past February. I don't feel like the parks were any more crowded. We stayed at All Star Sports and I definitely thought the food court was packed most of the time. We booked our room on our own as opposed to staying in the same block of rooms as her cheer squad and we were put in building 10 facing the large football courtyard. There were days when some of the cheerleaders practiced in that courtyard but I did not last all day or night. And I don't remember it being loud or annoying. We are going again in March and staying at Music. Not looking forward to this mixed with spring break crowds.

Yes,Mickey Mouse Field at All-Star Sports is THE most popular "practice spot" at WDW.:)

I second this. Going in March 2017 and am curious who we'll be competing with besides Spring Breakers. Thanks so much!

WDW Prep School has their calendar for the next school year out, but they have the dates for the cheer competition completely wrong. You can also check crowd levels on Touring Plans, but that requires a subscription.

I'm actually thinking about moving our dates since I thought we would miss the cheer competition, but after seeing this I researched and they will be there the exact same week as we will. We stay at Value, so it might be worth it to change for the piece of mind (and peace and quiet!!)

Ugh. Just when I thought I had finally picked a great week. I went and googled the cheer comp. dates after reading this thread, it's set for March 11-12. I had picked to Go March 4-12. We are not staying on site, but I want to completely avoid any extra crowds. September is my top pick, but we did not get to go this year and we do not want to wait that long next year, lol. Does the cheer crowd usually arrive the week before or after to visit?

I was at all star sports ( football area ) for the last week of april my first night of my 5 night stay I had to call the front dest 4 or 5 times between 1 am and 5 am because of the loud noise the next day at MK I had some very series medical problem lucky I was already in first aid and I was so bad they had another nurse could out form a break to help me ( and first aid was not busy at all at the time no one waiting in the front and just one other guest in the back)
I know I would not be able to stay any more at all stars and so when i when to the front desk asking if I could cancel my trip and and get a refund I told them what happened that it just was not safe for me to be there any more ( and when I say I had some very bad medical problems I mean if I was not in first aid I would have died ) the manager at the hotel moved me for free to AKL and boy was it quiet

I will be there again at the end of april ( my birthday trip and I am so scared as I can not afford anything over values )

Can you tell me where you saw these dates? All the research I've done shows the Cheer Summit Invitational taking place May 5 to 7.

Where did you see that there will be cheer events between the 7th and the 13th?

I think there is more thence event and they are over a few weeks but I am hoping that they have moved then to may

There is another event that is April 29 to May 1st, and then the previously mentioned on from May 5 to 7, but there is nothing listed as lasting the full week of the 7th to the 13th. I'm hoping OP can respond with where they saw those dates because I'm about to book and really don't want to be there for that week if I don't have to.

To add to that, if you try to book an All Star standard room on the 7th, it's unavailable. If you change to the 8th, it's there. That makes me think that the event does not last to the 13th.

I never thought I would get so obsessed over cheerleading...

This is why we hang at POR and go in August or September. You just don't get the groups. They would still be welcome if they did while we are there since we are usually the most annoying 50 year old kids at POR.

well the make me so happy I will be there from April 24 to the 29 so maybe I will not have the problems that I did this year
Actually some of the Cheerleading and Dance Worlds participants will begin arriving on Wednesday April 26 with ICU competitions on Thursday and Friday.
