How bad is the orange side of Mission Space?

You sound like you'd be fine on the orange side of MS!

I actually loved the ride when I was ON it. It felt so real like we were really lifting off!! BUT then we walked off the ride and as I walked through the room with the bright lights on the after activities I didn't feel right in the head and I had to sit down outside. Both DH and I had to sit down and get our bearings. Now I never got sick to my stomach or got a headache, I just felt odd for hours after.

Now I'll tell you I ride RNR, TOT, Space, etc.. without any problems. The new Star Tours I'm completely fine with too, however the old version did give me some problems of feeling odd afterwards but not as bad as MS.

I think you should try it. I only do the green side now, but it does not have the same feeling of real lift off as the orange side. Give it a try, you sound like you might do just fine!

The first time I rode MS was shortly after it opened and people on the boards were talking about people getting sick and Disney installing motion sickness bags. I was nervous the entire time I waited in the and the constant warnings didn't help. By the time I got to the ride my stomach was tied in knots before the ride even started.

The ride was unique and lift off was amazing but like other people had towards the end of the ride I started feeling really off and I felt off for hours afterwards. It was probably the 2nd worse I'd ever felt after a ride. I swore I'd never ride it again.

Fortunately I didn't stick to that. Just a couple of days later I rode it just prior to illuminations. It was a walk on so I didn't have time to get nervous. It was at the end of the day so if something happened this time I wasn't ruining the rest of my day. It was a great experience. I still at time get a little queasy at times during the final landing but not bad and it goes away quickly (although I can't go on it more than once). The lift off, slingshot around the moon, and weightlessness though are amazing.

I don't do the ride every trip but it is definitely a one of a kind experience. But like everyone else said. Go at the end of the day, look forward, and let me add RELAX. For me at least, 1/2 of the problems were psychosomatic. I did it to myself worrying about getting sick made me sick.

I don't have any motion sickness problems. I have rode ToT 3 times in a row followed by RnR 3 times with no problems. But MS Orange did me in. I felt disoriented for 2 hours afterwards. I even left my bag on the ride when I got off, I was out of it. Luckily a cm grabbed it and called out to me. Never again. I did do green a couple years after that, I was fine.

I rode orange on our 2011 trip with my oldest DD and youngest DS...I will not be riding it again this time. I was ok with the tight space and with the ride itself, it's just that there were several times that I could not get a deep breath because of the force against my chest. I remember praying that I could just keep breathing and not pass out, so no I would not ride it again, but I did not get sick.

I rode it when it first came out before they slowed it down a little and it was definitely too intense even though I don't get motion sick. However after they slowed it down I rode it with my nephew and while I didn't get sick I found it still to be uncomfortable feeling. We basically skip it every trip.

Just do it! I don't get motion sick, either and I loved it! You might want to ride at the end of the day just in case. DSIS felt sick after. Whatever you do, don't look away from the screen. That is how you keep from "realizing" you are spinning. It is virtually the same experience as the green, but you get the additional sensation of being weightless, so it is more realistic. I usually end up doing green to go with grandkids and DH, but I'm really glad I went orange the first time!:cool1:

I only ever got really motion sick woozy from the original Mission Space. When I ride now, I ride the non spinning side and it was much better for me. You do miss out on the sensations to make of really feel like lift off, but it was okay by me.

I also avoid the tea cups. And I avoid the side (I guess orange) that is full ride features.

If spinning rides do not make you motion sickness, then you will likely be fine. (Note--you cannot see the spinning or really feel that you are spinning per se.)

I don't usually get motion sickness, but the claustrophobic feeling is what really bothered me. So much so, that I would never ride on it again.

Never. It was really bad.

Just saw this post. It was similar to my experience and although I didn't cry, I was really freaked out.

Didn't know I was claustrophobic until I rode that ride! I thought I was having a heart attack and tears kept spilling down my cheeks. I was having to "breathe" through the end of the ride to get through it. I was literally praying for the ride to end with me still alive! I love roller coasters and simulator rides in which you are not caged in. If you have issues with going into an MRI machine that might be an indication that this ride isn't for you!

Loved orange side last time. Brother in law was in rough shape afterwards. He is a bit more prone to motion sickness though. I enjoyed it so much I ended up going on it a second time right after the first since it was a walk on.

It truly depends.

If you hate the tea cups than stay away. It took me down. I actually had to lie down on a bench afterward. But than all spinny type ride make me sick.

I am not prone to motion sickness, but I was always afraid of Mission Space just because of all of the stories I had heard. And, I am somewhat claustrophobic.

I finally went on it last year with my then 9 year old, and we both got off thinking "that was it?". It really wasn't bad at all (for us). I could feel the G's from spinning but didn't really feel the spinning if that makes sense. :confused3

It's obviously different for everyone though!

I can't ride the Tea Cups but I was fine with MS Orange, rode it multiple times because my daughter liked it. I was careful to keep my head still straight ahead; I think the turning radius of the ride is just small enough that the illusion of increased gravity gives way to the fact that you're actually spinning if you move your head a lot.

Something that isn't often mentioned is that Mission: SPACE - Orange Team: More Intense Training does not spin constantly. The sensation is like being in a carnival "Gravitron" ride, except you do not get 4 sustained minutes of G-forces or anything. The spinning only lasts for about 10 or 15 seconds and happens three times during the ride total ride. The rest of the ride is exactly like Green Team.

For several years I only rode the green side because quite frankly I was afraid to try the orange side. Well, for the last several years I've been riding the orange side with no problems. The first initial lift-off is an AMAZING feeling on the orange side!

I am reading this topic with interest as I previously went on Green last time I went and when we go next year, DF wants me to go on Orange. I didn't realise it didn't spin the whole time so thanks for letting us know. :thumbsup2

If you've been on Green then I can tell you that the G-forces are felt (SPOILER ALERT) when the rocket launches, when you insert around the moon, and when you come into Mars atmosphere. This lasts for 15 seconds max each time. The intent is to make your arms "heavier" so it is harder to press the buttons. Other than the above segments, the rest of the ride is exactly like Green.

That's brill. Yeah, I've been on the Green side :) Thanks for explaining the Orange side for me. Hopefully I'll be brave enough... :rotfl:

Sadly, it's beginnings were somewhat scary. A couple of people died because they ignored the warnings or had a pre-existing condition that they didn't know about. People became afraid, as I did, to ride it because of that bad experience. It is one of Disney's all time underrated rides ever. It is great and it is unique and it exemplifies just how creative that Disney can be when they try.

I agree with one of the posters that many people have talked themselves into sickness, because that is what they expected. The mind can be your enemy sometimes.

I wanted to add some information that I found out the hard way (as some people will find this thread using the search feature wanting more information on the ride in general) that if, like me, your issue with the ride is one of being claustrophobic, switching to the green side will not help you. I discovered this the hard way! I had horrible troubles on the orange. Switched to green several trips later and suffered the same issues. That's what helped me realize my reaction was not from the spinning but from being caged in.
