How bad is the orange side of Mission Space?

I see some people who absolutely love the ride and others who say it made them so sick that it ruined the whole day or they had to go back to their hotel and lay down.

Personally, I have never had issues with motion sickness. I'm a big baby with rides when it comes to drops (glad that I got the courage to do Tower of Terror but don't especially want to do it again! The drops on Everest and Splash, as well as the backwards portion of Everest, scare me, but not enough to where I won't ride them; I just brace myself and scream. Still haven't gotten the courage to try the launch and loops on Rock n' Roller Coaster). But the fear is all psychological, I have never gotten sick from any ride. Spinning and motion simulators have never scared or bothered me like drops, though. I can spin the teacups as fast as they'll go, and I can do Primeval Whirl, Star Tours (including the new version with the 3D glasses), and I have ridden the "gravitron" ride a couple times. I have also done the green side of Mission Space. All the warnings for the orange scared me away. None of the spinning/motion rides I listed bothered me at all. I think the gravitron was the most extreme and probably the closest thing to MS, but I'm not sure how similar the sensation actually is. I've just wondered if I could handle the orange side or not. The green side did feel really tame. It was still fun, and I'd ride it again, but I know the orange is a more unique experience and I am kind of curious and interested to try it. At the same time though, I don't want to get stuck on a ride that makes me feel sick or like I'm going to have a heart attack, and I would hate for the rest of my day to be ruined. For people that have ridden it, what was your experience? And did you ever get motion sickness on other rides?

I have taken off and landed in a jet aircraft on the pitching and rolling deck of an aircraft carrier and would gladly do it again. However I am never riding Orange again...... IMO it did not compare at all to any kind of spinning ride I had ever been on. My kids love it though.....

I've never been prone to motion sickness.
I do however develop a headache shortly after riding, so I always make sure to drink plenty of water and maybe have a cocktail ready in Mexico after riding ;)

It's a really different experience. I recommend at least trying it once and see how you feel about it.

The orange side of this ride is the only ride anywhere I have problems with. I have no problem with motion sickness, it just feels on this ride like my face is being torn from the bone. And I get nauseous.

IMHO HORRIBLE.:thumbsup2 my 60+ mom? she loves it.:confused3 it depends on the person, I was SO sick after riding I vowed never again. This was the original ride, before there were choices. I can go on the green side ok, but it's not that exciting to me. I'd rather sit outside and watch the birds while waiting.;)

The first (and ONLY) time I tried the Orange side, I was so nauseated and had a huge headache for hours. My husband said I came out of that ride looking like I was about to spew. The green side, which I tried a couple years later was much easier on me.

I agree with one of the posters that many people have talked themselves into sickness, because that is what they expected. The mind can be your enemy sometimes.

A little judgmental, maybe?

(And morning sickness is probably psychological, too! You know, the woman just really doesn't want her baby so she vomits to the point of being put on I.V.s.) I've heard that theory, too!

Really? I even made the point that I love all coasters, simulators, etc. and totally was NOT expecting a reaction from MS.

I can't ride the Tea Cups but I was fine with MS Orange, rode it multiple times because my daughter liked it. I was careful to keep my head still straight ahead; I think the turning radius of the ride is just small enough that the illusion of increased gravity gives way to the fact that you're actually spinning if you move your head a lot.
I ride everything! Huge thrill ride lover and I can't ride the tea cups anymore. Something about the continuous, outdoor spinning and it paralyzes me and I can't move I am so dizzy. But Mission Space Orange doesn't bother me nor any other rides. Just the tea cups. Go figure.

I found it bad, but will go again in December anyway. I don't get sick on rides at all - and I love the Teacups! This one made me want to spew. LOL! DH wouldn't ride it - he gets sick as dog on ALL spinny rides and was chicken to try (plus someone had to stay with the little kid). I didn't feel like I was spinning at all, just icky weirdness in my stomach. It got worse for me too, after I got off. Queasy and headachey. My oldest DD wanted to ride - she would've been about 7 or so, and she loved it. She is 14 now and this is pretty much her only must do, so I'll ride again with her. DH says no way, and my middle DD is 11 and hurls everytime we take a long car ride, so we may tell her she can't go.

If you have any kind of motion sickness routinely, skip the orange side. My dad didn't listen back in 2011 and regretted it. I normally can do any ride, even the spinny ones, and I have had rides on MS: orange that left me feeling a little bleh.

Take things a little personal, maybe?

You will note that I said SOME PEOPLE. Even though I guess you could come under the heading of "some people", it also might just mean that some people are "talking themselves into it". I really didn't think that I was including those with actual problems, be it inner ear or vertigo or whatever thing that can cause motion sickness. And it is quite a stretch to compare this to pregnancy or whatever motivates one to make themselves vomit because they didn't want their baby. Was she planning on puking it out?

So, just to be clear here. I was not talking to you directly, I didn't even quote you. Your situation had nothing whatsoever to do with my comment. So ask yourself... are you being just a little judgmental about my motives?

I was so worried after landing on Mars that we still had to make a return trip back - thankfully we did not or there would have been a need for a clean-up crew. I felt sick for a couple of hours after while my son had to deposit his lunch in the washrooms just outside the ride.

This is way way way, did I mention way? to subjective. I can ride it over and over and it doesn't bother me (guess I may have missed my calling in life?). My sister and fiancé hate it and it's the only ride to make my father psychically I'll. Mean while my brother and best friend can ride it no issue.

Ride green if you can handle the tight spaces and simulator movements than step it up to orange, same advice I give everyone. Oh and if you are on Orange please use the bag, poor girl I was on with one time got some gastric juices from our "commander" on her top.

Guess I have just been lucky. I have been on MS many times and never once did I notice anyone even looking ill, much less redecorating the cabin.

Not really a problem with motion sickness for me; it was the claustrophobia. I didn't know about the incidents prior to riding so I had no perceptions about the ride. But when they closed the doors in, and the ride didn't immediately start I began to freak out. (I think they were loading a disabled guest; in a normal setting I'd be fine but while waiting to start I began to zone out to try and stop the awful feelings I had). Didn't help that I'm a bit overweight and tall, so was really feeling cramped. The one thing I was grateful for was that I was on the end, so as soon as I could get off I bolted out of there. Didn't take me too long to get back to normal, but I'll not ride it again, green or orange.

This was pre Orange and Green. Most people I don't think realized they would be getting sick at the time not even the Mouse. To be fair this was so far back Disney had not even put bags in capsule so their was really no wear for that guys breakfast/lunch? To go.

However I have seen plenty of people look quite I'll while riding even now. I just think "it's called more intense for a reason" as I reassure them to not close their eyes and do not move around as it will just make it worse. They never listen /sigh

Orange side ALWAYS!! Really gives you a sense of flight, pulls some G's. As long as you look at the screen, don't look to the side, or close your eyes, you'll be fine. If you do close your eyes, or look to the side, then you will notice the spinning & this can make you sick. We love this ride & always go Orange.

Before I went on on the orange side I had never had any motion sickness in my life. In fact, to this day I love spinning rides, especially the ones where you stick to the walls and the floor drops out.

So, I went on Mission Space thinking I would be just fine. I wasn't. I think it was a combination of claustrophobia and the spinning but I was NOT feeling okay. I did look to my right at one point to make sure my friend was okay. I hear that looking to the side can be what does you in. I managed to keep it together but let's just say I didn't want to ride again... ever. On the bright side the sick feeling didn't last. I was fine as soon as I stepped off the ride.

I did end up riding again with my husband three years later. He really wanted to go, and I couldn't deny him. I still felt super sick during the ride, but I found that breathing really deeply and keeping your eyes straight ahead no matter what really helps. He didn't feel sick at all. Not even a little bit. He loved it. I think next time he'll have to go alone.

Didn't know I was claustrophobic until I rode that ride! I thought I was having a heart attack and tears kept spilling down my cheeks. I was having to "breathe" through the end of the ride to get through it. I was literally praying for the ride to end with me still alive! I love roller coasters and simulator rides in which you are not caged in. If you have issues with going into an MRI machine that might be an indication that this ride isn't for you!

I don't usually get motion sickness, but the claustrophobic feeling is what really bothered me. So much so, that I would never ride on it again.

Never. It was really bad.

Just saw this post. It was similar to my experience and although I didn't cry, I was really freaked out.

I agree with both of these posters. The claustrophobic part is what did me in and the pressure on my chest. I hated the feeling.

The green side did not give me this sensation and I have done it many many times, but did orange once and will never do it again. My DD also felt sick for hours after riding orange.

Decided to pass on even green due to claustophia!
Doing Spaceship Earth instead now!:)

Want to ENJOY ourselves, not "STRESS" out...Not worth it imo!:)

THANKS for the honest feedback!:thumbsup2

My husband can do any roller coaster or ride on the planet and love it and he had to rest for 2 hours following it, I am a wimp and it made me nauseous....

its more of the tight spaces caustaphobic, not enough air kind of feeling

My experience extends back to before there was a Green side and since. Still never have seen a problem. I know it happens, it's just that I think that it isn't as prevalent as these accounts imply that they are.
