How bad are the SSR villas?

I know SSR is do for a rehab. Planning a stay in December/January 2020. I’d like to help out a friend by booking a two bedroom but none are available at my home resort AKV. SSR is my other home resort. Are the rooms just awful right now? Run down and worn? My last visit there was 2015. I’d be trying to shift to OKW at seven months, but that might be tricky with how heavy booking is for that time.

Try exactly at 7 months, 2 br probably will be easier certainly than studios! Good luck!

Some of the resort will be refurbished by then. Obviously, the question becomes if they start in a Standard or Preferred section, because that will potentially influence if a "refurbished room" request can be granted.

...although my ca$h money is on them starting with Carousel. Which is Standard.

I think you are right. I’m tempted to move from AKV. Have always liked SSR, but have been avoiding it due to reports of poor villas.

I think OKW they went outside in, didn't they? It would also make some sense to start with Carousel, because it is least-requested Standard. By refurbishing first, they entrap all the people requesting a refurbished unit.

My only "comfort" complaint with SSR has been the couches. Otherwise, the Studios and 1BR that we have stayed in have been fine.

I am taking down a mattress topper in April for the pull out couch for the kids to use.

We were there for 2 nights as part of a split stay and other than what the pp said about the pullout couch I think it was fine. My daughter slept on it ok. The villa was clean and has everything we needed. We would stay there again. Hope that helps

It does. Thanks.

Stayed in Paddock area studio earlier in the month. Missing the cute throw pillows with Disney horses... The actual cups/plates have disappeared again in favor of paper plates, bowls, and cups (all individually wrapped in plastic, how nice :( ) Sofa bed has seen better days. Due for refurb, for sure.

We were there in January for 2 nights. It was fine. Not spectacular but certainly not aweful. Just fine. Everything in our room worked as expected. I had no complaints.

There's some pictures of the refurb here-

Not started with it yet, indeed permits went in for more test rooms 2 weeks ago.
Who know ls when they'll start, but test room permits indicate they still have testing to do first.
I'm not convinced many will be done at all by Xmas but I'm hoping I'm wrong.
I think the refurb looks superb.

That's been our complaint too. The overall condition of the units was just fine. But the couches - no way we could even sit on them. I'm sure no one could sleep on one either. The couches were just "broken". If you tried to sit on one you would sink several inches. Very, very uncomfortable, and I'm not picky about what I sit on.

I'm not going back until 2020.

We were there a few weeks ago and the unit was fine. Yes, they're due for a major update but they have been pretty well maintained. We were in the Carousel section. We'll be there again next week, hopefully we get another good unit.

We stayed in a preferred studio in Dec and it was well worn. The grounds were perfection though and our view was great looking at Disney Springs. The worn room did not hurt our stay at all. This is a resort that we got because nothing else was left but after staying there I would
plan another trip there without thinking twice.
