It didn't take long to notice all those lovebugs through the park.
I finnaly found the the story behind the love bugs. The come for two weeks a year in Florida, mate then die. The place was swarming with them and they were all over the Corranado hotel the week of sept. 18 - 24th. I hope they are gone soon for the rest of you. :rotfl: :teeth:

no kidding.....we were at the Coronado the 13-19 and they were everywhere! It was impossible to lay out by the pool without them landing all over you!

I think this belongs over on Theme Park Strategies. But thanks for sharing.

We still have them here in Georgia. Saw one on the car window yesterday. They are all over most of the SouthEast, where ever there is water.

I will never come at this time again. The love bugs are disgusting. You are right, the only way to avoid them is to be IN the pool! I wasnt aware they were only around for a couple weeks. I hope so for everybody elses sake. They seem to be the absolute worse at disney/kissimmee area. Closer to the airport, they seem less thick. anyway - a good tip is to not go at this time.

What are they? Will they be there Friday?

Someone else posted a picture of them. They look like DOUBLE BUGS cause they are ... um ... attached. In other words, they fly around, have lots of quickies, and die. (OK, the females lay eggs for next emergence!)

A day with DISNEY LOVE BUGS is better than a day working Fiscal End of Year procurements ... whoops sorry - sleep deprived ... forgot where I was ....

Don't know how long they will be around but according to a coworker who was just at WDW -- they are ANNOYING!

I will take the love bugs over the cicadas any day. They are nothing compared to those.

With the new cold front moving in hopefully here they will go away. They shouldn't be as bad anymore. I didn't see any out here today. :cool1:

I was leaving MK last thurs.and they were all over the exit turnstiles. Poor CM was under attack and tons of dead Lovebugs covered the ground.

I found 2 love bugs "doing it" in my popcorn bucket. I did not appreciate that at all!

Added protein ... that will cost you an extra SNACK credit! :teeth: plus possible arrest for viewing pornography.

I have never heard of this. Should I be concerned? We are going at the end of Oct. Does insect repellant work? I thought you guys were referring to the Love Bug car - not a real insect! Yeeccks!

Actually they come two TIMES a year end of April-May and end of Aug-Sept for 4-5 weeks each "flight".

They do not respond to insect repellents (citronella, DEET) since they are not attracted by carbon dioxide as are blood-feeding arthropods

They are lightning bug sized and many times when you see them you will see them "attached" - they do not bite or sting - but can be annoying. This "flight" was far worse than in the spring - could be because we were under such dry conditions (either that or I was just oblivious to them even thought we spent at least one day of every weekend in the parks)

YEh....its not like they are harmful or biting...just anoying. Actually they aren't near as bad as they use to be back in the 70s. They were so bad back then that people would buy netting for the front of their cars, just to keep the paint safe.

geeez hope there all sex'd out by the time we arrive 11/12 :moped:

we were in disney last week and they were HORRIBLE. they don't really do anything to bother or harm ya, they just are ANNOYING!! couldn't wait to get away from them. hopefully next year when we go they won't be there.. we're thinking more towards the end of september next year.. :thumbsup2

They usually stick around longer than two weeks in Mississippi. But they've been bad for a while now, so I expect they'll be leaving soon.
