How About Those Love Bugs?

I'm 30 years old and didn't realize until reading these posts that love bugs weren't everywhere. I've lived in Texas all my life and we deal with them year after year. I'm just amazed that they're just "Southerners".

I live in Gainesville Fl and of course we have them here as well. I grew up in Miami and they don't seem to like the tropics as we never had any there. Anyone know how far south they make it? Just curious....

For those of you not in the south...

Lovebugs are similar in appearance to lightning bugs, but they don't light up and are usually found "hooked together". Although annoying at the peak times, they are no where near as annoying as chinch bugs, fire ants, crazy ants, scorpions, misquitos and palmetto bugs.

Reason to not be in Florida?....... no!

We found them very curious on our recent trip. We had never heard of them either.

I know have to explain the birds and the bee's to my 8 y/o due to the love bugs. Was really not in the mood to do that at disney.

We just told him that if you had two weeks to live what better place to go then to wdw. He bought it.

I did see tons of dead ones in the window areas especially around the monorail at the airport when we left last Sunday.

we were there last week and the first few days they were really bad we had to clean them off the door before going into our rooms, they are harmless but they were alot of them the last few days of our trip they were not as bad and we seem to only notice them in the heat of the day

Wonder what they are like today... Leaving tomorrow morning - yeah! :cool1:

I found 2 love bugs "doing it" in my popcorn bucket. I did not appreciate that at all!
Not very Disney-like behavior in a theme park! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was there dealing with the love bugs a couple weeks ago, and I discovered a "silver lining". When I got back, I had a very unique souvenier-when I put on the shoes I'd worn in WDW, I found love bug "parts" all over my shoe laces. Also, I found my shoes covered with all these little black "splats" from when I killed love bugs.

So are we! Sounds like they may be winding down. I was thinking I would have to buy a screen cover for the stroller.

Our cats love the palmetto mugs. No problems with the mesquitos. Bugs don't bother me since we have the cats.
