How about the Gaylord Palms?

I have not stayed there, but many have.

I have gone to their spa, The Canyon Ranch and it's beautiful. The whole resort is gorgeous. Very relaxing and peaceful. I did tour the grounds area and thought the pool was kind of on the small side for a resort as huge as this one, but it's mostly a convention hotel so they probably figure not that many people would be using it.

I have heard many good reviews about Gaylord Palms. I would love to stay there if I didn't already live here in Orlando :)

It's a stunning resort, well worth touring even if you don't stay there.

The rooms are spacious, the restaurant choices are unique and inspired, and the central area.........well, you just have to see it to believe it! Very much along the 'Disney' lines, with a dramatic Everglades area, a sort of 'Florida Keys' area, and a Spanish inspired area.

While I did not have time to dine at Old Hickory Steakhouse, I found both Villa de Flora and Sunset Sam's well worth trying. Fresh food, and lots of it. Dessert at Sunset Sams was very good, if I recall correctly.

I can definitely recommend Gaylord Palms, not only for excellent accommodation throughout your trip, but also as a special treat for dinner a one-night stay.

Are you paying? :D

Seriously, there are a few posts already about Gaylord Palms. Do a search on the DISboards. Recent reports are that some people are getting this resort for $85 thru Priceline.

Never been but will be there 5/24-27. I got it on Priceline for $85 while the internet rates are $209. Visiting Disney after a week cruise.

I also got the Gaylord Palms through Priceline for $85 a night and that was for the July 4 weekend. Happened to be in Orlando two weeks ago on business and I went through the resort. It is gorgeous. Can't wait till we stay there.

We stayed there when it first opened and I reallly loved it. It was very plush. The rooms were great and the atrium is really something to see. One day it poured for 6 straight hours. It was nice to just to hang out in the hotel, with the feeling of being outside. I would not hesitate to reccomend this property to anyone. And for 85.00 its a bargain.

To all the Priceline Veterans,

Did you just pick the DisneyWorld Section, and click on "Resorts" to get Gaylord Palms? Is there a chance that we would get something else in that particular category? I would love to try Gaylord Palms for our next trip, but am very nervous about Priceline. Thanks for any advice.

Yes there is a GOOD chance you could get something else with Priceline.

I have never gotten Gaylord, I have gotten Wyndam Palace, Hilton DTD and Marriott World Center.

I suggest going to www.biddingfortravel.com and reading the Priceline FAQs and the Orlando hotel listing.

Do not bid unless you can live with ANY of the things you might get.

Lately on www.bididngfortravel.com only the Gaylord has been showing up at $85 for resort level. I took advantage of that and we're staying there--goodness, it's next Saturday! I hope to recoup after our drive by touring the hotel before we move to Ft Wilderness.

dgaston - When did you bid for your room?

The last couple of days, the Hilton has been coming up .

I placed my bid about the beginning of March. A few days earlier, I placed a bid for one night in March and only bid $70 and I got the Hilton. When I went to bid for the 4th of July, I checked availability at all of the resorts in that area. A couple were sold out, so I just bid the 85 flat out since that was the price that Gaylord Palms had been coming up at. I would always check price and availability at the resorts you might get to give you an idea of what is out there.

The risk of this $85 bid is that you could easily get one of the other hotels at a price MORE then you would have had to pay.

So, do you balance the chance taken with the feeling that even if you don't get the Gaylord Palms at $85, it is still a great price for any of the Priceline "Resorts"? Is $85 too much for , say, Wyndham Palace?
Would I feel like I was ripped off? I know rack rate is higher, but does anyone pay rack rate anymore?

I have never paid $85 for the Wyndam. I normally get it at around the low to mid 60's.

I really don't know, but I think there is a risk.

I don't need to worry about it anymore.

My husband told me to just go ahead and book the Gaylord Palms. He didn't want to take the chance of not getting it on Priceline. :)

I hate to pay $175 when I could get it for $85 on Priceline though.

It is probably just as well. A coworker of mine tried the bid $85 stunt and got the Wyndam. I think she overpaid for this hotel.

Carole - This makes me feel better. How long ago was this that your co worker got the Wyndam?

BTW - Does anyone know how I can log in and stay logged in? I have had to log in everytime I post lately. Sometimes I will post a reply and then I am asked to log-in. Then, my post doesn't come up and it is lost.
