I decided to post a new thread as I didn't want to hijack the threads that are already posted about the new "security" checks, especially given that a lot of them seem to be addressing the logistics and reasonableness of the new policy, and I didn't want to undermine or take away from those discussions.
I prefer to decline housekeeping. It has to do, in part, with not wanting people to touch our stuff due to health issues (I won't go into the gory details here). I usually end up tracking the housekeeper down at the beginning of the trip to get any extra supplies we may need and then leave the do not disturb sign up for the rest of the trip (I do make sure to remove towels and garbage periodically so the room isn't a disaster for them to clean once we have checked out). I'm assuming that in the past, housekeeping would either just see the sign and not enter or maybe they even made note of the fact that I declined housekeeping and therefore "knew" that my room did not need to be serviced. If I follow that same procedure now, based on what I've read, I understand that that will/may trigger security checks but I can still opt out of housekeeping, correct? I know that some people are saying that if you don't want a security check, you should just let housekeeping come in daily and the problem will be solved but I don't want my room cleaned. This sounds a bit nutty now that I have written this all down but do I now need to specifically request no housekeeping at the front desk since they seem to be insistent on sending someone in daily? I understand that I won't be able to avoid the "security" check (not sure how I feel about that yet) but from my understanding, they are supposed to just look around and leave. Has anyone had any experience with this? I believe I read somewhere that they were running a trial at certain resorts wherein you could decline housekeeping in exchange for a gift card but I don't know if they are still doing this and how this might be impacted by the new security policy. Any comments/insight would be appreciated.
