We are studio-stay folks and have had probably 20+ check-ins since we split stay with VB on most of those trips. I am a picky germ-a-phobe and have felt that my rooms were cleaned above my expectations on almost every trip.

We did find puked-in towels stuffed under the sink at BWV once - everything else was fine, and there would not have been a reason for housekeeping to look under the sink since it ought to have been empty.

Had a soaking wet carpet on one side of the bed at OKW once, and a broken air conditioning unit at AKV. But have always felt that mousekeeping did a good job.

We have been fortunate and have not had a bad housekeeping experience on check-in. We don't "white glove" the place but the types of issues people are talking about we would have noticed. I'm glad we have had many "clean villa" visits...I'd hate to think what DW would have thought of our purchase if we had a bad experience on our first trip as some unfortunate owners have experienced.

So are you going to do an analysis of the polls and give us some sort of conclusion? Being a data geek, I'd love to hear the results of your findings even though they can't be totally conclusive due to the nature of our having different levels of cleanliness.

I think most of us here pretty much agree that these polls have virtually no statistical relevance. For one thing, we are a pretty small sampling of DVC owners. For another, the definitions and opinions for each response (as you indicated) are far too varied to draw statistically relevant conclusions.

Whatever someone would like to infer from these polls, we could probably put together another one worded in a way to get the opposite inference from the same voters.

I think the discussion is healthy and worthwhile as long as opinions are respected and not attacked.

We found a dark circle in the bottom of a glass in which we were drinking.:sick::sick:

We really look at the dishes now!

Our latest stay at BCV (april '10) we got to resort very late due to 4 hour long airline delay. After a slow check-in process we went to our 1BR villa eager to get our little ones to sleep. I was so dismayed to find wet towels on the bed and floor, opened and used bar of soap in the shower and someone's bathing suit coverup on the floor. All obviously put there after the villa had been cleaned after the last occupant as everything else was in order. Oh, yes, and the table beside the couch was gone and the lamp and phone were on the floor. It took 40 more minutes to find out that there were no available suites to switch to. Mousekeeping then came (several at once with the night manager) and they replaced all bedding and towels and the table as quickly as possible. We didn't get to bed until after 1am after all that. I'm not sure how someone got access to the room after the last occupant checked out - they tried to underplay that when I asked. The mousekeepers that came were very professional and got the foldout couch ready for the kids when they realized we would need it. The seemed as shocked as we were that someone had 'used' the room to change clothes and shower.

we have never had a dirty room...thank the Lord...:cloud9:
however, my sister is coming on vacation with us this summer and it will be her first Disney trip in a very long time....all I keep thinking is this will be the first time I will have a disgusting DVC room and I will be so embarrased:confused3

When we found used sheets in the pullout at night, Mousekeeping did promptly change them (I just wanted to get a new set to put on, because sometimes the new sheets are in the closet) and we wound up with a bonus full cleaning the next day (wish I knew about it beforehand because I would not of vacuumed that morning) I'm not saying that always happens, but you can get service to correct issues, if you call housekeeping/maint.

This poll needed more responses. Usually my kitchen area experiences have been decent, once a few cobwebs in unused cabinets (which I use for food storage) Once a few missing items that they replaced easily enough, at least I have not noticed previously loved food ;) but there was not mostly OK kitchen experience option. (like the other polls)

We were sent to a "ready" room on a trip this past fall. We were told our room wouldn't be ready for awhile - no big deal - but while we were rearranging bags to leave with the bell desk, I get a text - our room was ready within a matter of minutes :) Woohoo! We thought, grabbed the bell guy with our groceries from Garden Grocer and away we went. We arrived to a dedicated 2 bdrm that was in such disarray it was unbelievable. The housekeeper was so embarrassed - we were equally so for her. It looked like the place had been ransacked and that some pretty dirty people had been living there for months. It was truly disgusting!! We quickly threw our groceries in the fridge (she had cleaned it already) and our stuff in the closest of the 2nd bdrm and left so she could get back to business. I really felt sorry for her!!! When we got back at the end of our day, we had no pack-n-play, no highchair, and no working phones/internet in any of the 3 rooms! After 2 hours on our cell phones with 2 terribly crabby little guys, we finally got some of it resolved. How do we prevent this from happening again?? We spoke to everyone and their mother for the 2 days before the rest of our family arrived, but it never should have happened :( We do love our DVC though and just try not to stay at this particular resort (unfortunately, this was our 3rd bad stay at this resort :( )

It's not at all scientific, but I wanted to see if there was some sort of corelation between what people expect and what they see in reality.

I do think that the late checkouts of prior guests and the guests who do not take out the trash, strip the beds, clear food out of the fridge affects the rest of us who try to do the basics before we depart.

It makes me mad to hear reports of how the rooms are left.

Totally agree, Granny, and that was the point. I think we hear so much here about the negative, and wanted these polls to point out that it probably isn't as negative as the preponderance of negative threads would lead us to believe.

It was never meant to be a "scientific"....Just a curiosity.

My comments were in response to franandaj who had talked about analysing the poll data and drawing conclusions.

Diane...I know that you have seen a lot of these polls and have a good idea as to how the responses can bounce around. I agree that they are fun and provide a way to get discussions like this going.

I agree with your comments though. It is the nature of internet forums (and talk radio) that bad news gets repeated and discussed out of proportion to its occurrences. Just human nature I suppose. Not much to discuss when someone indicates they arrived to a gloriously clean room! :)

It is interesting, indeed. A few of the numbers so far that leap out:
47% - Bathrooms USUALLY cleaned to satisfaction. Seems to indicate 47% of respondents have experienced bathroom cleaning issues at some point.
83% - Bedding USUALLY in satisfactory condition. 17% would seem to disagree.
9% - have found gross blankets / spread.
18% - have found dirty dishes
33% - have found carpet / floor stains, 17% found furniture condition bothersome.
38% - missing items from inventory
36% - found evidence of previous occupants.

Though it's difficult to achieve 100% satisfaction in any area, the poll numbers so far seem to indicate that DVC is not even cleaning to 70 - 80% satisfaction in most of these areas. I find that sort of alarming. I would have bet the numbers would have been more skewed towards 90 - 95% satisfaction prior to the polls.

But, you are not taking into account the number of stays::number of issues ratio. We had one really gross issue out of 20+ stays, that is 95% no issues.:thumbsup2

Overall my family has had all very good experiances with mousekeeking and overall appearence of the room. I have stayed at several of the resorts and the only real problems have been the need to get replacement batteries for remotes and once at SSR the room smelled of smoke. In fact that first time at SSR the alarms went off several times in the early evening the first night we were there but that was when SSR first opened and they were having some techenical problems by the next day everything was great, no more random alarms going off for no reason. I'm looking foward to my next stay there in a few weeks.

I'm just using the numbers from the poll. If the poll isn't constructed using numbers of stays, then I can't really make up numbers in order to mitigate the results to a more favorable conclusion.

Just a reminder....This is NOT scientific....It's just a series of polls for general information here on the boards, and to get a feel for what the norm is for all of us. As I said earlier....We tend to only hear about the negative in most threads, and I think these polls will show there is a lot of positive as well.

Actually, when I posted this, I meant USUALLY to mean that more often than not the respondant had satisfactory conditions. The problem with this is that some people are not responding to that portion of the poll. For example, they might choose to skip the bathroom part of the poll completely. Everyone can choose what options they want to choose, and they can select more than one option. As you can see, the number who usually had clean bedding doesn't come out to 100% when you look at the number saying there was an issue with bedding.

I've had 30 DVC +/-stays since 2000 and I have always had clean bathrooms, showers, and kitchens. Once in a BWV & BCV studio I had glasses that had been put away clearly without being washed, but I don't consider that to be a catastrophy. I really don't expect Mousekeeping to inspect each and every dish, utensil etc.

The worse experience I had and again it wasn't catastrophic, was needing the sofa bed at OKW and finding chip/cookie crumbs, a huge amount of them, including a Toosie Rool, Skittles and other wrappers. The predecessors to the villa were quite careless and clearly didn't clean up or pick up after their kids. I think housekeeping should lift the cushions and vacuum the sofas each and every time.

The incident itself would not have been so bad had I been able to put my hands on a vacumm, dust pan and/or broom (all were absent from the villa). No problem I thought, I called housekeeping at 5pm & 7pm and when we returned from DTD at 11pm still had no vacuum. I called again and asked for a vacuum or hand vac, no they didn't have such a thing. Housekeeping came, she goes to the closet for the vacuum, duh! The insulting part came when I could clearly hear the housekeeper blowing me off in french/creole on her hand held to the other housekeeper in the villa. I responded to her in French, and advised her to be more careful in future about who overhears their conversation. She was rather stunned.

End result, she used the kitchen towel to throw the crumbs on the floor and then left. In the morning I gave the Manager a full report of what took place and of what was missing in the villa and that was the end of it.

Even when I've encountered normal wear and tear, it's been minimal. I don't consider water/glass rings on the furniture, normal wear and tear, this IMO is poor judgement and could clearly be avoided if people, DVC or not, had the good sense to use a coaster (they are proviced for this very reason).

I am sorry that I cannot contribute to this last poll since I have yet to go 'home'...first trip in 124 days and 12 hours but I suspect it will be perfectly perfect in every way...just like Mary Poppins!
