When my brother in law housesits for us, I change the sheets and pillowcases on our bedroom - having him sleep in our sheets would be gross. But I don't change our bedspread or make sure he has a complete change of blankets. I make sure that the dishes are done and put away - but I don't make sure that my daughter didn't do me the favor of putting away a dirty coffee cup into the cupboard sometime last week - don't have time to check every cup. I mop and vaccuum, but I don't get out the carpet scrubber or try and get six month old stains off the couch. If the drapes are dropping their hems, it probably isn't going to get fixed right away, nor do I make sure every lightbulb in the house is functional. I make sure our more personal stuff is put away (he doesn't need my lingere out on my dresser), but if there are cheerios under the bed I don't know what he is doing looking under the bed.

OTOH, BIL probably isn't spending his hard-earned cash to stay at casa crisi nor is he paying anyone for cleaning services. (just trying to point out the "other side" of the story)

Your guest room sounds awesome - for a guest room in a private home. I'm not sure the hospitality industry would, or should, use the same criteria for setting expectations though.

Unfortunately, money changes everything. If I'm charged for a service, I kind of want the service to be something of value. If it's free, I'm much more forgiving.

No, but he is doing us the favor of housesitting at Casa Crisi - in some ways he is "more than" a guest and if he isn't comfortable, we'd have to board the dog and cat.

And since DVC is a timeshare, money exchanges hands, but its our dues paying for our membership for our housekeeping. Maybe a better analogy is when I had a housekeeper - I was paying her to clean my bathrooms and mop my floor, but if I wanted my carpets scrubbed or my windows washed, I would have had to pay her more. I didn't expect her to scrub floors or wash bedspreads every week - because that would have been price prohibitive - I did expect a "company clean" house each week. I could have had her wash my bedspread, she was very flexible, but its expensive to have someone clean for you.

Exactly, and washing bed spreads and cleaning windows or carpets weekly would cause unecessary wear and tear as well.

I'd settle for just getting to SEE the bathroom in the presidential suite at the GF!

We own our house and we own at BLT but nobody paid me 2.1 million dollars last year to clean my house but we (the collective we) did pay the Contemporary that much to clean our rooms... (this applies to all DVC resorts) It should be clean and no evidence of past visitors whether that be a dirty bathroom (and some reports here have been really sickening) to dirty dishes in the cabinets. I understand their desire to be thrifty and maximize profits by reducing costs but we are paying directly for this service. So their being thrifty is cheating us... My expectation is that the room will be as clean as any moderate level hotel room when i check in (although cleaner is better). Only one time have we walked into our pop room and found it dirty. Of course the "dirt" was a hand print on the bathroom wall, the gross part...it was not mud...

YUCK, and how did housekeeping miss THAT???:scared1:

:confused3 you have go to wonder what happened in the room... They had to clean the carpets before we arrived. They were still sopping when we got into the room at 7pm.... We assumed the previous occupants were sick. We doused the room on Lysol and did fine.

Yeah, it happens.

The part of this poll result that surprises me most is that not everyone voted they expected the carpets to be vacuumed!!!! Why on earth not???
