Interesting that some think the bathroom should be cleaner than at home. Not sure why we would have different expectations there.

I have a lot of cats, and one old one lives in the bathroom now, plus there are all those bottles of stuff that gather dust, my housekeeper doesn't wipe them off weekly. Then there are some papers and other things I took out of my pockets and didn't put away yet. As someone else said, the bathroom is sanitary, but not necessarily clean.

Yes, I want the bathroom clean -no hair please. One towel for each person is fine. I can do towels in my DVC washer/dryer. I want the floors and the rugs clean. Fresh linens on the bed. I do not use the bedspread near my face.
I always put the dishes, glasses, flatware etc in the dishwasher and wipe the counter and table.

I need at least 2-3 towels when I use the jacuzzi, and at least 2 when I shower (long hair needs to be wrapped in a "turban"), so I never have enough towels. I usually bring extra, and I meant to put one in my OL, but it was too full with more important stuff that I didn't want to put back in my suitcase! :lmao:

The response to rewashing all the dishes is surprising to me. I've never found a dirty dish in the cabinet and don't expect the housekeepers to rewash them all before I check in. Maybe that's why I've never found a dirty one. They've rewashed them all before I check in. :confused3

I didn't check this one because I don't expect them to wash ALL the dishes, just the dirty ones. I read one TR from the VGC where someone got the dishes out of the cupboard and found a french fry on one of the plates. :scared1:

I want Mousekeeping to check the dishes and if they're dirty wash them, but there is no need to waste all that water to wash clean dishes. Same with the floor. It need not be scrubbed, but going over it with a mop and some Pine Sol would be nice.

Did not respond to bathroom options. I expect the bathroom to be clean, period.

I agree with this. The condition of my home bathroom at any point is irrelevant to my expectations of a DVC villa's cleanliness (or any hotel room for that matter).

:mad:I get easily grossed out...and the little hairs are just down right nasty!!!

I was a bit surprised about that too, Deb, but I HAVE found dirty dishes in the cupboard, and I think there is a lack of housekeeping checking dishes that are "put away". That was kind of what I was getting at with that question.

First of all, great polls! :worship:

In response to this specific comment, though, I will say that I believe that if it is someone's sole job to clean hotel rooms all day, then I would expect them to do a better job than I do at home because cleaning is not my primary role. Just as if the Mousekeeper came to my Firm for legal advice, I would have the expectation that I would provide better legal service than they because legal functions *are* my job. So, I do have higher expectations in that regard. With that said, I can't remember, in all my stays at Disney (staying Deluxe, Value, DVC, etc.) every having any complaint with the room conditions - they have always been immaculate (to our standards, at least). :thumbsup2

Great idea with these polls - puts things into perspective.

I wipe up my bathroom at home daily as I do when on vacation - same with the kitchenette/kitchen. My own home is an on-going cleanliness project as I am sure most of yours is too if you have children and pets and basically anyone living with you.

But when I arrive to my vacation living spot I DO expect a higher level of cleanliness for that one occasion since the previous occupants dont belong to me and its just not hygienic to have it any other way. From there its my responsinility and that of my family to keep things as neat and clean as we wish. And since, as these polls show, everyone has a different version of clean and a different protocol of achieving it. Can you imagine what it would be like to have housekeepers leave us their version of clean instead of an across the board expectation?

One thing I do enjoy but definitely do not need while on vacation is a clean towel each DAY. Not each shower but each day. While at home I use one towel for every 2 days, there's just something luxuriously sinful about grabbing a clean folded towel each day! :rotfl:

I have cats, dogs and a teenage son (takes longer to do his hair than it does mine), so dander is a constant even w/ continual mopping and vacuuming, so I want the bathrooms cleaner than mine (no hairs)!

As far as the bedspread, I just take them off, I don't want to know how long they remain in the room before being changed, just creeps me out!

I don't think there should be any remembrance of the previous occupants.

and having found dirty glasses on 2 occasions, I do run a cycle of glasses & dishes, that way I know they are clean!

See below....

Finding my own hair on the floor in the bathroom isn't as disgusting as finding someone elses.
My thoughts exactly. I pretty much know who is using my bathroom at home. We are all sharing germs and such already. So, if my bathroom gets a bit messy or 'hairy' I know who goes with the hair or messiness. But...when I enter our bathroom, in our villa, for the first time upon arrival, and I see hair (both long and 'short/curly') on the floor, and a less than cleaned toilet area, and a dirty tub area...yep, I'm going to be unhappy.

I really wish we could find out information like how often the bed spreads are changed. I usually feel like ALL hotel type accommdations have bespreads I don't want to touch, but frankly, most DVC ones have always seemed a bit cleaner to me.

I do the dishes when I arrive, and before we leave we fill and run the dishwasher (with glasses, plates, and silverware; as much that fits comfortably). This way, I know the next guest is getting something clean.

I will be happy to bear the extra water charge, if DVC chose to charge us, for this last load if required.

think that is because DVCers know to not use the things.

that say - most of bed spreads seem to new - so doubt they have ever been washed. washing will make them look older. of course all the dirt does too.

Pat, the older bedspreads at OKW did get very faded and limp, so I know they were washed often. I just wish I knew HOW often.

I voted for this too.... because I know who used my bathroom at home, but at a hotel who knows:confused3

On the bathroom thing. The bathrooms don't need to be cleaner than I keep my GUEST bathroom when I'm expecting company. The one downstairs that doesn't have toothpaste in the sink ten minutes after I clean it, that doesn't have anyone doing their hair. The one that doesn't have bottles and jars of stuff. Just soap, hand lotion and some hand towels.

But the family bathrooms - those are pits even when they are clean. Every one in the house uses a different shampoo. Tweezers, hair driers, straightening irons. Not enough room.

LOL! I get that!

Actually, I think that is sort of my "clean standard" for a Disney hotel room - if it were my house, would I consider it 'guest ready' - and guests are not my mother or my kid's friends.

When my brother in law housesits for us, I change the sheets and pillowcases on our bedroom - having him sleep in our sheets would be gross. But I don't change our bedspread or make sure he has a complete change of blankets. I make sure that the dishes are done and put away - but I don't make sure that my daughter didn't do me the favor of putting away a dirty coffee cup into the cupboard sometime last week - don't have time to check every cup. I mop and vaccuum, but I don't get out the carpet scrubber or try and get six month old stains off the couch. If the drapes are dropping their hems, it probably isn't going to get fixed right away, nor do I make sure every lightbulb in the house is functional. I make sure our more personal stuff is put away (he doesn't need my lingere out on my dresser), but if there are cheerios under the bed I don't know what he is doing looking under the bed.

Excellent! That's a good way to look at it!
