Housekeeping - I no longer miss it!

Well after my first week at BCV (having only stayed a few days at VWL before), I will admit that I no longer miss housekeeping! Lack of housekeeping was one of the cons I listed about DVC on a thread awhile back, but it was actually nice not having to be "bothered" by housekeeping while we were there.

As a matter of fact, on trash and towel day, I was dreading it, lol, knowing I had to "clean up" for the housekeeper (get the towels together for her, etc., so she wouldn't have to look for them). Sure enough, at about 8 a.m., I got a knock on my door. I ignored it as I was in my towel and by the time I got to the door, the housekeeper was across the hall (I did not have a do not disturb sign anywhere in our BCV room). Housekeeping came back while we were at the parks that day which was fine, but I now understand why some people say they prefer no housekeeping. Works for me! :)

Isn't it amazing? You get used to one way of things happening (ie if you are in a hotel, you get housekeeping) and anything else seems weird. I think with DVC you tend to spend more time in your room because they are so beautiful and comfortable and you know you will be coming back for the next 40 years. Because of that, I think housekeeping is even more "intrusive" than it would be if you are up at the crack of dawn and out until the parks close (though 8am is still too early!) I thought the same, that I'd miss housekeeping, but I turned out to be not quite as messy as I thought I was!

I don't miss the housekeeping, per se. I do miss seeing how they arranged my DD's stuffed animals and other things after a day at the park. I always thought that was so cute.

We do not miss it at all too. In fact, we try and cancel the T&T day if we are in anything other than a studio. You do not have to worry about coming back to the room in the middle of the day and housekeeping being there. That used to happen all the time to us in the pre-DVC days.

I don't miss Mousekeeping either. Heck, the first thing I do when they come is rip up the bed anyway. :p

I just have to make sure I keep after the kids, otherwise cookie crums would kill us! :smooth:

We too prefer to have no Mouse keeping intruding on us.

Besides, after 17 years of my mother grilling responsibility into my xy-wired brain it finally sunk in. Now the thought of letting anyone see _my_ home messy is embarrassing. How people can leave their rooms a mess for the maid to clean up is beyond the realm of my ability to comprehend. Its not like I'm scrubbing the place, but cleaning ones mess is the least people can do.

But, on the subject of Mousekeeping, it would be nice if they checked everything...I'll assume the prior occupants in our 1BR at BCV recently forgot they had broiled somethng in the oven when it came time to washing the dishes, but Mousekeeping should at least open the oven door and check it out. :)

We too were leery of the 'no daily housekeeping' when we first joined. That was cured with our first trip home.

No tidying up the room before leaving for the day, no locking up the laptop, cameras, etc. no digging for tip money (except on T&T day), and no interuptions or missed cleanings because the kids needed a nap in the afternoon.

Of course, we stay in a one bedroom with that very convenient washer/dryer. I might spring for the daily towel service if we were in a studio. Just not convenient for us to run to the laundry room if you want clean towels each day or so.

We almost always cancel our housekeeping and trash & towel days. I wash the towels myself and dh takes the trash out everyday. I guess we just prefer our privacy! :)

Well, I for one do miss daily mousekeeping!!

Or at least one thing about daily mousekeeping.

Not for the cleaning but for all the cute things they would do with the stuffed animals and such....putting them in different poses each day, and being very creative.

I'd rather have DVC than this little perk....but I have to be honest and say that I do miss those little surprises we got when we came back to our room during the resort stays.
