Say you're staying at a DVC resort for a week.... how often does housekeeping come to make your bed, vacuum, etc? Part of the appeal of a "vacation" for me is not having to do these tasks. Doing all this myself might be a bit too much "home" in my home away from home. If they don't offer it, can you pay extra to have that done and, if so, how much is it?

On a stay of 8 nights or less, you will get Trash & Towel on the 4th day. This is minimal, basically emptying the trash and bringing new towels. On a longer stay, you get a full cleaning on the 4th day and then T&T on the 8th day, full cleaning on the 12th day, etc.

It sounds shocking not to have housekeeping but most of us found that it's not a problem and, in fact, enjoy not having to worry about when the housekeeper is coming. It's especially easy in the larger units with washer/dryers. You can purchase an extra set of towels, pay $10 for Trash & Towel or pay for housekeeping. It's $25 a day for a studio, $30 for a 1 Bed, $40 for a 2 Bed and $60 for a GV/Beach Cottage.

It feels more like home when you have to make your own bed;)
Seriously, though, I agree with Pam, I like the fact that I don't have to think about housekeeping coming into my room. We always have a 1-br, though, so we have the option of washing our towels if we want to. I don't miss daily housekeeping.

Are there dumpsters where you can toss your trash, then? I can imagine having some smelly trash, especially with diapers, if they're only picking up on the 4th day.

On a stay of 7 nights or less, you get one trash and towel (former trash and tidy). At 8 nights, you get one T & T and one full cleaning. For an additional four nights you get another T & T and add four more nights (16 total) you get two full cleanings plus the 2 T & T. For 3 nights or less, you just get a room and no cleaning service. You can add full cleanins and additional T & T days for cost if you want. T & T is $10 per event I believe and full cleanings vary with the unit size.

Of course, there are trash bins! Depending on the resort, they will be either in seperate marked buildings, or a room. At OKW, the trash/recycle bins are in the little "hut" type buildings at the base of the stairs. We don't have little ones along, so there is no need to dispose of diapers, but we do usually take our trash down on our way to the bus in the morning, if we need to.

I second the great feeling of not having housekeeping tramping around my "house" everyday! We make the bed every day at home as soon as we get out of it, and we do the same on vacation wether or not it is at a timeshare. I find a lot of pride in having our unit be neat and tidy when we get back from the parks, and it only takes 5 minutes of my time to keep it that way.

Location of trash disposal areas will vary from resort to resort, but yes, there are dumpsters/disposal areas. At OKW they located beneath the stairwells in labeled "closet" like areas.

If in doubt, ask at check-in.
