Housekeeping fall adantage 2014

I will be doing housekeeping : ) I'm excited because although I've worked in a hotel I have never done housekeeping before, so it will be a good learning experience. :cool1:

I just applied a week ago... and I haven't even gotten my WBI yet, BUT if I do somehow make it into the CP, I would love to do housekeeping!!

I don't think I'm the right type of person to be working in the parks and constantly interacting with guests, but I do think I would enjoy being 'behind the scenes' to the magic. I hope one day I'll overcome my anxiety and be outgoing enough to do attractions or something, but in the meantime... custodial or housekeeping would be nice.

As a side not, one of my favorite parts of any vacation is going to a nice, clean hotel. :) Plus, I'm both a good team player and independent worker. If Disney hotels are like most hotels, then each housekeeper gets 12-16 rooms to clean during their shift and works for the most part alone. (Is it sad that this is one of my dream jobs?)

^^

I actually wanted to get housekeeping too. I consider myself a people person and I have worked a hotel front desk for five years. However, I have always appreciated the behind the scenes work that goes into housekeeping. In addition I have found that there is a sort of peace that comes with working independently (or mostly independent) and doing repetitive things (like vacuuming).

I do not think it is sad that you want to do housekeeping. Actually, housekeeping can be a good job path if you choose. Of course you would need to be able to run a crew of housekeepers, assign roles and handle large amounts of responsibility so you do need some "people skills".

I hope that you get into the program! If you don't, don't take it two hard. Even with hospitality management experience I didn't get in on my first try.

I was cross trained from Custodial into PM housekeeping.
If y'all have any questions about it I can answer a few of them :)

I have a question. Typically what hotel will we work in? Also what are the hours like? I know its 35-40 hours per week, but what are the shifts? Also are lunches provided or are we on our own for lunch?

You can be placed at any one of the Disney Resorts on property. If you are assigned AM housekeeping, your shift will be 8:00am-4:30pm. If you are assigned PM housekeeping, your shift will be 4:00pm-12:30am. You will either be AM or PM for your program, but can pick up overtime as either. As for lunch, you will need to provide your own or you can purchase one from the cafeteria. Each resort has one for their Cast Members
