I would like more information about house keeping for DVC members. Seems like we don't get service until we have been there 4 days. What happens if we need clean towels and our trash emptied?

We recently stayed at Hilton Head Resort and we enjoyed it a lot. We were provide a washer and dryer down the hall to wash our things, we just had to purchase detergent. We were told to put our trash outside the door and someone would pick it up. They did but it took a while and it did not look very nice seeing trash outside our door.

We are planning a trip to Disney World soon and I will bring laundry detergent and plenty of trash bags when we go. We have a large family and we really go through a lot of trash and towels. I just hope they will provide us a place to wash our things like they did at the other resort. That is the only thing I have found that I do not like about being a DVC member so far. Seems like we should get the same service as regular guest not less service.

I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions since we are new and have not learned the ropes yet.

There are trash rooms in every building in each resort- you have to check the resort maps for where a specific room is near you. If you need your trash emptied before 4 days then you are expected to bring it to the trash room- no one will be going through the halls to pick it up for you. There was recently a thread about a room with trash outside it at HHR and the people said they started taking the neighbors trash to the trash room because they didn't think it was safe with the critters around to leave it outside the door. There should be additional trash bags in your villa in the bottom of each garbage can so you should not need to bring your own. You can also pay for trash and towel or housekeeping on a daily basis if you wish. In a studio I think trash and towels only is about $20 but the prices are on the website.

For towels you have 2 choices you can buy a towel pack with 4 towels, 4 washcloths and 2 hand towels for about $6 or you can wash your towels in the laundry room (you will need to buy or bring detergent).

Housekeeping
Trash & Towel Service
For stays of seven or less nights, Trash & Towel Service is provided on day four, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both. With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

•Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
•Provide fresh bathroom linens.
•Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap.
•Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
•Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners.
•Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwashing detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed in one-, two- and three-bedroom Vacation Homes.

Full Cleaning Service
For stays of eight or more nights, Full Cleaning Service is provided on day four and Trash & Towel Service is provided on day eight. After that, the cycle begins again on day 12, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.
With Full Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

•Change the bed linens.
•Vacuum and dust the Vacation Home.
•Clean the bathroom(s).
•Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes.

Pay As You Play
With Pay As You Play service, you'll be provided with the following amenities free of charge at the start of your stay. After that, you may purchase more for the following fees:

•Toiletries Package, $5.00 - 1 facial soap, 1 bath soap, 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner, 1 shower gel
•Coffee Package, $3.00 - 1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners
•Towel Package, $6.00 - 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 4 washcloths, 1 bath mat
•Laundry Detergent (only in One-, Two-, and Three-bedroom Vacation Homes), $1.00 - 1 box

Additional Full Cleaning Rates:


•Studio/Inn Room - $30.00 per day requested
•One-Bedroom - $45.00 per day requested
•Two-Bedroom - $60.00 per day requested
•Three-Bedroom - $75.00 per day requested

You can get all the full housekeeping you want. You just have to pay for it. If every villa was fully cleaned every day with unlimited towels and other amenities, our annual member fees would be outrageous. To keep those down, services are limited, just like any other timeshare.

If you want a hotel with all the services of a hotel, book a hotel instead of a timeshare.

You hadn't mentioned what size unit you had booked for WDW. If it is a 1 bedroom (or larger), there should be a washer and dryer in the unit (there may be exceptions - but I do not know of any). There would be no need to go to the laundry room, you can do the laundry in your own unit on your own schedule.

We usually stay in studios and the standard has been 4 of each size: bath, hand and wash cloth. We have no problem making it to towel day.

Quick question...the day you arrive is day 1, right? So if I arrive on a Thursday my full cleaning will be on Sunday. Correct? Then the following Thursday I will have Towel and Trash service.

Is there somewhere on the DVC site to see the amount of bath linens provided to a 2 bedroom? Just trying to decide if its enough or if I need to order another package of towels. If you need the extra set do you have to preorder those before arrival or can we just call the front desk when we arrive and can decide?

All resort operating expenses are paid for out of member dues, that's what a timeshare is. Housekeeping is the largest item on the dues budget. If they provided more frequent housekeeping, dues would go up for everyone. With the current system, only those who want extra services pay for it.

We recently stayed 8 nights at BLT and 10 nights at OKW. On both stays we had full clean day 4 and Trash and Towel on Day 8. That's why I like to stay at least 8 nights so we get a full clean.

Sorry, you didn't say how many days so I assumed you meant a week. We always do a split stay for over 7 days.

A two bedroom that has two bathrooms will have at least eight bath towels, four hand towels and eight face cloths, plus two tub mats (maybe three). If it has three bathrooms, it might have a few more bath towels. You usually get as many bath towels as sleeping spaces.

You can do it when you arrive. We had a GV with a bunch of teenagers and I knew they would need lots of towels. So I bought two extra towel packs each service day. When you get to your villa, just call Housekeeping and ask for an extra towel pack.

Being a timeshare owner requires a different mindset; you need to think like a property owner, not a hotel guest. There's nobody to 'give' you things, as you're using something that you own.

As the PP said, as owners, we all pay our share of the operational expenses of the resort. Property taxes, utilities, landscaping, and yes, housekeeping. If you want the same number of housekeeping visits per stay as hotel guests get included in your stay, be prepared for your dues to double or more. It's much better this way - everyone gets a base number of housekeeping visits, and those who want more pay for it out of pocket.

To look at it another way....all of those operational expenses I mentioned above? When you stay at a hotel, you're paying them, too. Disney's not 'giving' you housekeeping when you stay at a non-DVC resort. It's part of that hefty room rate, and you pay it whether you want or need housekeeping in your room or not.

I like not having daily housekeeping. We straighten up as we go and just pull the bed together before we leave for the day. DH use to say when we stayed at hotels I would clean the room before the housekeepers came.
