House/Budget/Life "Hacks"

I'm back again... I have thought of a couple more...

When cooking you can always make more than you need and use later on in the week. Time saver for sure...

I boil a dozen eggs each week..- On Sunday I boil and peel, and put them in a container, with a paper towel on the bottom... DH takes some for his lunch, I make egg salad, or use them in a chef salad, or deviled eggs... they are a good source of protein and make a great snack.

Same for potatoes... I can baked 5 pounds, and then use them during the week, baked potatoes one night, then stuffed potatoes or twice baked, potato salad, mashed potatoes, breakfast potatoes...

Donation box... I have donation box in the garage, when it gets full I donate... Right now I have a couple of boxes waiting to go, our Goodwill is only taking limited items...so hopefully soon I can drop more off..

When I was working outside of our home, I would do at least one load of laundry every week night. We got into a routine of doing one chore each night, between 3 people it made life so so much easier... This way on the weekend laundry and the house was clean... everything was all done and out of the way and we could have some fun...

My hack is I buy quality.
Yes, that's one of the best hacks! I'll add this: you can buy quality items used.

On the other hand, quality doesn't matter for everything. For example, we're preparing for a baby in our house. Quality matters for the crib, car seat, high chair and stroller -- those things will be used for years, and "good stuff" will make the parents' lives easier. AND quality is not likely to need replacing -- and may even last for younger siblings. On the other hand, onesies regularly go on sale at the consignment store 20 for $10, and onesies don't need to be quality. They're only going to fit for a few months anyway.
That's what my sister said about them too. She wanted a pair for ages and when she got married a couple years ago, my mom bought her the rose gold pair to wear with her wedding dress and she hasn't loved them nearly as much as she thought she would.
That's a good reason to check eBay before you spend on something expensive. I've never had a pair of those shoes, but eBay is chock-full of stuff that people were sure they'd love ... and didn't.

I kept cardboard box in each kid closet.

if I found item of clothing that was too small i threw it in the box.
Once the box was full I could donate it or save it for younger brother.
