I may have to return from our trip on saturday and my car rental rate goes up over $50. I tried Hotwire and I'm getting a terrific rate for a midsize $25.95, but, I was wondering which company they use. I also never get the extra insurance, because, my insurance covers rentals, plus, I use my Amex. If you booked thru Hotwire, do they make you take the extra insurance??

Thanks!!

I don't know about Hotwire, but if you want to try to match or beat that on Priceline, they deal with Alamo, Avis, and Hertz. I've heard they also use National, Budget, and Dollar, but in all the times I've rented, I've only gotten cars with the first three. Got a great upgrade with Avis...went from economy to a huge Impala at no extra charge.

I've used Hotwire three times in Florida. Once I got Hertz, once Budget and once Alamo. I had the same type of Ford Taurus each time, for under $30 a day. I like that all fees and taxes are included and pre-paid. They don't make you take any insurance. It's all been quick and painless.
