Which one would you choose? Which one do you think a would a 7 year old enjoy more? Halloween is a 5 night with an ocean view room and Merrytime cruise is a 6 night with a verandah for pretty close to the same price.

If I had to choose one - Very Merrytime. I'm not really a fan of themed cruises (Star Wars, Marvel, Halloween), but, at least, the cruises with Christmas decorations are no more obnoxious than those around town.

Haha yes I can see where it would be annoying if you weren't into the whole themeing thing! We love Halloween, Christmas, Star Wars, Marvel...we love it all so it's making it hard to choose! Lol

The Bermuda cruise is during hurricane season which has me a little worried after this hellacious season we've had this year :(

I just don't "get" the frantic "gotta do this!!!" atmosphere of the more specific (one day basically) themed cruises. I cruise for the cruise experience. Not so I can meet Darth Vader (or any other non-Disney types).

We loved our HOTHS cruise! Of course, having the extra day on the Christmas cruise would probably sway me towards that but if both were equal, I'd choose the HOTHS--we love to dress up and go full out on each cruise for Pirate night! Either one, you can't lose!

We love to dress up too and always dress up as a family for Halloween!! And we've gone all out for pirate night for each cruise too! I swear if it wasn't for hurricane season...it's just making me nervous to book the HOTHS one. We just cruised this past August and had to miss a port bc of a tropical storm and had rough seas...I was stressing for a week before our cruise watching the weather. I don't know if I want to go through hurricane stress again:(

I can totally understand that stress! We did HOTHS late last Oct. and luckily had no storms or rough seas. But given this year's storms, geese...I'm actually glad that I booked the WBTA instead of doing another caribbean for our anniversary (as it was, the storms affected us and made us miss our last port in Newfoundland :worried:). I will say, if you can ever swing doing MNSSHP on Halloween at the MK, well worth it! We did that after our cruise last year and it was absolutely the best time! Not sure when we'll ever be able to do it again as our oldest is now saying he doesn't want to miss school for trips (darn him and his responsibility)!

That's so awesome you've done a Transatlantic! That's definitely on my bucket list!! We've did the Halloween party at MK a few years ago and are going again next week for the second time...we love the Halloween party!!

So envious you're doing the party next week!! I only ended up doing the transatlantic because the cost was so good and we found really good airfare (one-way). I told my husband that it was the only way I wanted to come back from Europe--slowly readjust to the time zones and avoid uncomfortable planes/jet lag! :D

We are doing a Halloween/Marvel cruise this year and it is SO packed. Marvel was announced after I booked. I know we'll have a wonderful time but my dream is to do a Christmas cruise. Thankfully, my kids are way more into both Halloween and Marvel than I am.

We do not find that the Merrytime cruises are that Merrytime. Just decoration in the atrium. The few events they have are so packed that it is very difficult to enjoy them. Think see you real soon goodbye show crowd multiplied many times. Your child will not want to hang out in that crowd, our kids do not. They are token events and not really for everyone to actually enjoy. We vacation at that time of year. We find Christmas at WDW to be more impressive, much more decoration. We have not done HOTHS but it seems like the trick or treating is more spread out throughout the ship and more of a substantive event in which everyone can participate.

We enjoyed making and having the gingerbread house. Because of the extra night, plus making the gingerbread house, I would pick the Merrytime cruise!

Yes, the gingerbread making is cute but it is a ticketed event and not very many people get to do it. We have done it where people were pushing their way in without tickets and trying to grab supplies without notice. We have also done it where people were begging to get in. Another time when cast members were making people work in a group which doesn't always work so well with kids. And the houses are small, not really good for more than 2 people to work on at once. But when the cast members are more in control and limit it to ticket holders it is very cute.

HOTHS trick or treating is not more spread out. I found the Halloween activities to be even more crowded than Merrytime. I think part of that is that most of it happens on one day, whereas there are Merrytime activities throughout the cruise. I have done both and would really have a tough time choosing. We are doing another Merrytime this year, but that's because it worked with our schedule. We did the HOTHS last year and now that it's getting close to that time again this year, my daughter and I are both lamenting that we are not doing another one this year.

The actual "trick or treat" event is only in the atrium area.

That is interesting. I had kind of assumed the trick or treating was more spread out. From trip reports it looked that way but I guess not! I probably need to read more closely. Why would they do that? It seems like the enture point of trick or treating is walking around. In the parks they have it spread throughout.

I'm thinking they don't want to jam up the passageways anymore than necessary with kids running (yes, they will be running) from place to place. Just have it in one large area, like a party.

We have done both many times as well as a couple of Star Wars Days at Sea cruises.
1. Merrytime cruises are tops on my list. The atmosphere, decorations, caroling, gingerbread house making activity etc and over all ambiance is awesome.
2. I was okay with the HOTHS and have done many of those as we sail frequently in September every year. The good thing about them is that the decorations are not in your face and it is very low key in regards to activities and dressing up etc.
3. SWDAS cruises. I did these for my husband and son who are insanely crazy about SW. The first one was in February this year and then I snagged a great rate for the April Easter/SW cruise so we did it again. Over all, the guys loved both cruises and I enjoyed the great menu that they had. My daughter enjoyed Chill Spa on SW day so she was happy both times too. lol Seeing Storm Troopers and other SW characters walking around the ship was fun, but not the highlight of my cruise.
Now we are thinking of Marvel day at Sea in January out of Miami or maybe February. My son would prefer to do SW again, but I am not impressed with that idea at all. :)

The actual "trick or treat" event, where they gave out candy was not just in the atrium last year on the Magic. There were multiple stations on deck 3, I don't remember even one of them in the atrium. It was a lot of fun, afterward we stopped at a bar on deck 3, drank beer and ate candy.
