So I just realized the hotel we're booked at is further than we thought to walk to DL. So I need help finding a new hotel that is closer.

We are looking to spend no more than $100 a night (including tax) - about $600 for a 6 night stay with tax at a hotel within 15 minutes walking distance to the park enterance - the closer the better.

Hopefully this isn't an impossible request.

Oh, also considering joining AAA so if they have a AAA discount that puts it in our price range than we'll do it still.

I think almost all of them have a AAA discount! So that should help! :)
I personally just reserved at the Carousel Inn, but we've never been there so I'm not a ton of help. But they're doing a promo 20% off if you book 4 or more nights for a room on their website. You'll find it in the drop down box of rate choices on the reservation page. ;)
Find the big map in the info thread for all the newbies. It helped me tremendously when looking for a hotel that was close!

You should be able to get desert inn & suites right across the street for under $100. Haven't stayed there but did have it booked for our upcomming trip and changed our minds due to a great rate at GCH. Depending on your dates HOJO may be under $100 too. We stayed there last time and really enjoyed it. Your kids are the perfect age for their pirate play area.

It will be two Adults - five year old - three year old - one year old.

The rates will depend on your dates..

I'd suggest the Anaheim Plaza *but I woudln't pay more than $80 for it. The HoJo is great if you can get the Ent Rate.

What I've quoted above - consider bringing carriers/strollers for all of your kids - maybe a nice carrier for your 1 year old and a double or 2 single strollers. My DD stopped using a stroller at home at 3 years old but at Disney she still needs one *especially long hot days* for sure at 5 years old she was in her "carriage" almost all day at Disneyland/DCA - you'll do a lot of walking and little legs get tired ~ mine are aching after day 2 at DLR!! But ibuprofen and my Croc flip flops help tremendously.

Have fun ~ mid July should be great, DD and I survived the 4th of July weekend last year *it was fantastic! But DLR B-day is 7/17 *I think* and I hear that's a busy day.

I would search South of Ball Road, North of Katella, and within a block of Disneyland Dr to the west and a block of Harbor to the East.

If 3yo is walking try for one block from the crosswalk to the resort entrance on Harbor.

If you want to stay under $100 per night. Make sure you consider that the tax is going to be %15. Also add in the parking prices, as some hotels have that. Finally if you want to save, stay somewhere with breakfast.

Does anyone know if the Travelodge 1057 West Ball Road is a very long walk to Disneyland?

If it is the one i am think of all you have to do is walk down Disney Drive til you get to the GCH and then cut thru the lobby out to DTD, thru security and then over to the maingate area. For adults and teens it should be fine if they can walk.

Tax is up to 17% now!! This is very important advice. If you're on a strict budget of $100 per night including tax, 17% tax plus something like $8 for parking a night (I'm using Best Western Park Place where I'll be staying in March as an example) can really dig into that budget! Definitely look for places with free parking first. I chose BWPPI for the proximity, and don't mind paying the $8 for parking, but it is something to consider when budgeting.

Maybe, I wouldn't do it with a 5yo walking. Here's why, it's probably over a half mile. You can walk down the east side of Disneyland Dr. Then you have two choices. Follow the sidewalk which makes a left and follows the tram's route behind DTD or cross disneyland dr. and go into the tram area. This honestly is not a simple choice since taking the tram may sound like a feet or time saver, but barely saves any when you are coming from Ball Rd.

I always forget they raised the super high taxes.

Yep, 17%. So what OP needs is a room for $85 per night before tax but including parking and any other assorted fees. For July I would not say this is impossible, but it is tough. I have gotten the $59/$69/$79 Entertainment/AP rate at Hojos for instance in June, July, and August in previous years (July last year), but those dates are often not posted until much closer to that time. Anaheim Plaza Hotel is often referred to as a good budget choice within walking distance, but from what I'm reading it sounds like the good rate for "high" season there hovers around $89 per night, and I don't know if they charge extra for parking. That's pretty close to the target at least if parking is included.

Earlier this week I booked the Ramada Maingate - which I understand is directly across the street from DL (a 2 minute walk is what I have read)... I booked with a AAA discount and got a rate of $95.04 per night ($778.38 for the week with taxes) - I have read very good reviews here on DIS about this hotel, they offer free parking - never stayed there myself yet. My trip is planned for August 2011 - I will be going to DL for the D23 Expo.

Just to throw out another option, there's the Super 8 on Katella. We've stayed there a couple times during spring break for about $50-$60 a night. They have free parking and a free breakfast (not a huge breakfast but had a couple types of cereal, juice, muffins, donuts). We had 2 small kids (3 and 4) who rode in strollers so the walk was no problem for them and the older kids had no problem walking. But we only stayed for 2 nights. I'm not sure i would want to do that walk more than 3 days in a row but it's not impossible.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite in August for less than $100 per night...

It had free parking, microwave, fridge, nice pool, free wifi, free breakfast and was within 15 minute walk of the DL turnstyles...

It was the best value around when we booked and would be worth a try... It was Americas Best Value Inn, it was the one on Katella, not the one on Ball...

We got the best rate by emailing the hotel direct...
