The on-site hotels offer military discounts, but they are still very expensive compared to the Harbor hotels. Many of the hotels on Harbor offer a military discount and it will show up when you do an online rate search (Tropicana and Park Vue Inn are the two closest that come to mind that I know offer military discounts). Also, depending on where they are stationed, their local base recreation office might have a list of hotel deals. We are in San Diego so a lot of Anaheim hotels offer discounts if you buy on base, but I'm not sure if bases in other parts of the country have the same deal. Also, make sure they take advantage of the military park hopper special - 3-days for $99 each (unless of course they are going for longer).
