I would love to hear recommendations for hotels pre- cruise in Copenhagen. We are a family of 3 (16yr old son) so that makes it a little harder because we need a room that sleeps all 3 of us. I would love to be in the center of things in town and not break the bank. Thanks in advance.

We stayed at the Tivoli Hotel and Convention Center. Not in the center of town. We also enjoyed The Admiral, which has rooms that will sleep 3. Very close to Nyhavn, Amelienborg, etc.
Unfortunately, the closer to the center of town, the more expensive the hotel.

We are staying at the Bethel Hotel later this month. It is in Nyhavn and from what I have read is a good location. We reserved a family room for three of us (DH, DS16 and me). It is not fancy, but supposed to be clean and includes breakfast. My email communications with the hotel have been very pleasant. I can report back after our stay, or in the meantime check out the reviews on trip advisor.

I visit Copenhagen 3-4 times each year and always stay at the Copenhagen Marriott. It is not cheap but very nice and convenient, a 10 minute walk from Tivoli, city center, shopping, museums, etc. Rooms with a view of the harbor are worth the extra cost. Very international atmosphere and official language is English. Hotel d'Angleterre is probably the most luxurious in Copenhagen after a recent renovation (online reviews more than 1-2 years old may not be representative) if you want the best of the best. The area around Nyhavn is also very nice. I am not familiar with cheaper options.

I would also recommend the Admiral, they have Family Rooms that will sleep up to four. It's right on the water about a block from Nyhavn. (The Bethel that kmc33 mentioned also looks nice)

The only other hotel I've stayed at is the Scandic Copenhagen. It's nice but more of business hotel to the west of Tivoli. It's known for its large breakfast buffet, but its location requires a bit of a walk.

Location, location, location - most hotels in the city center are pricey. We also are a party of three (17 yr old son) and were looking for a room that would accommodate us. We ended up going with the Scandic Palace (there is more than one Scandic brand hotel in Copenhagen) and really enjoyed it. It is across from city hall, right at the beginning of the Stroget and was a 5-10 minute walk to Christianborg Palace, the National Museum, Tivoli, etc. Rosenborg Palace and Nyhavn were a bit of a hike, but doable. There was also a HOHO bus stop across the street, though we didn't use it as we preferred to walk everywhere. The room we booked that accommodated three (with a roll away) ended up being unavailable when we arrived due to some maintenance issues, so they moved us to two standard rooms next to each other. It actually ended up being a much better solution, as it gave us two bathrooms and our son had his own room and privacy.

The staff was great and the hotel was beautifully restored. They had a really nice breakfast buffet that was included in the price (about $320 per night for the three of us - though that price was based on the one large room rather than the two separate rooms we actually ended up with. I'm sure it would have been much more if we'd originally booked it that way). The Radisson Blu was our second choice. It is also centrally located and they had rooms that would accommodate more than 2. It was priced very similarly to the Palace. We also thought about the Admiral and considering how much we loved the Nyhavn area may try it in the future.

Good luck! We absolutely fell in love with Copenhagen. We spent three nights there prior to the cruise and it wasn't nearly long enough for us. We'll be back.

Another vote for the Scandic Palace. We stayed for 3 nights in May before our cruise. We were all 2/room, but the rooms were very large by European standards. It is a perfect location, on the end of the main pedestrian zone that takes you to pretty much everywhere of interest. The free walking tour also starts right outside the front in the city hall square. The breakfast was great and included everything from cappuccinos to lox to eggs prepared 3 different ways.

We stayed one night post cruise at the First Mayfair Hotel, about 2 blocks from the Tivoli and HoHo buses. It was $179 for 2 adults which included a very nice breakfast. I did not do the research on this hotel but we all (7 of us) enjoyed it. It is a small boutique type hotel. Only drawback was it was right across the street from a Gentlemen's Club. It didn't really impact us except some noise when we opened the window.

The Scandic Palace is great!

If you want something very budget friendly, clean, but no frills, Danhostel Copenhagen City is in a good location (about an 8 minute walk from the train station/Tivoli). Just don't stay there during the distortion festival.

We are also a family of 3. I also recommend the hotel Adina. We staid there one night before and after our cruise. It is not in the center, but close from the little mermaid. We like to walk and have visited the center by walk, but otherwise, it is very easy to reach the center and the cruise terminal by bus from the location of the hotel. We had a very good price for Copenhagen here.

Here is some pictures of our room:

We stayed at Tivoli hotel pre cruise. It is nice hotel close to Tivoli gardens and short walk to Nyhavn area. The rooms are small. Post cruise we stayed at Marriott Hotel. It was very nice. We stayed on the club floor and enjoyed it.

We stayed at the First Mayfair as well. One night each before and after the cruise. The club across the street did not bother us at all. However, my brother in law arrived very late on the night before my sister and I got back from our cruise (we met up for a weekend in Copenhagen after the cruise) and he came across some ladies offering their services to him. He is from Berlin, it happens there as well in some areas, and he was not shocked. But I thought I should mention it. The other night when my sister and I walked around that corner, we saw a lady who looked like she might be there to offer such services, but she just ignored us. It was not at all in your face in any way. I am sure that in my younger years I would not have had a clue that these ladies were doing anything else than standig on the street waiting for someone. And it was not as if there were so many of them, only one or two.

Otherwise the area felt very safe to me and there were plenty of people visiting the bars and restaurants in that area as well.

The hotel was good, our room was a bit run down, but very nicely decorated. The service was good and the breakfast was very nice, too. For the price (considering other prices in Copenhagen) it was absolutely worth it.

We took the bus from just up the street to the port (had to make one change) and paid about 4$ per person for the trip to the port. Cheap and convenient.

Several in our cruise group stayed at the Imperial and were very pleased. It was centrally located and we walked everywhere. We booked quite a long time ago and had a free cancellation and breakfast for around $180 total per night for 3 of us.

As others have said, do not miss out on Copenhagen! It was tied with Iceland as our favorite and I've been to Copenhagen in the past as well.

Yes, we also made a left out of the hotel looking for a restaurant and down at the corner my friend and I were standing looking at our maps and our husbands busted out laughing as we were on either side of a very tall lady of the evening. They said it was quite the site, us looking at our maps and her looking at us like why are you on my corner! Got a good laugh out of that. But, if you make a right out of the hotel you are all good!!!

I have stayed at Hotel Nebo (near the main train station) and Hotel Bethel on Nyhavn. Hotel Nebo was very convenient to Tivoli Gardens, but Hotel Bethel was in the center of everything. I had a very simple single room, but it was perfectly adequate for me. Great staff there, too.

Another vote for Scandic Palace. Stayed there in June before norway cruise. Starbucks just down the street. Our travel agent recommended. Great location. We had three rooms for our family. One had three beds the others were doubles. I think we paid about 250 a night per room although I don't really remember. Breakfast was fine. It is a little noisy. Clock at city hall rings loudly and it is a party town so there are people on street until about 4 am. No air conditioning so we had to have windows open. You can ask for room on inner courtyard which is more quiet. Our agent got us a 100 krone credit per room which basically paid for one beer! Expensive city but beautiful.

We walked everywhere and took a boat ride through canals which went past the Little mermaid. Loved this ride. Highly recommend. You go under these wonderful bridges.

This was our second time here so we didn't take bus around city although we have in past.

We went to Tivoli at night. The kids went on a couple rides and we had a good dinner at the Italian restaurant there. It's lovely at night. There is a light show around 11 pm.

The morning of cruise we ordered a large van to pick us up. Probably cost about 150 dollars for 7 of us. Ride to port is about 20 min.

I would love to hear about your stay when you return. I looked at this hotel and it seems the only negative I have read about is the outside noise during the night hours. Have a great trip! :)

Did you find noise to be a problem when you stayed at the Admiral? Another thing that I have read that the rooms are hot, did you experience this? Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who posted! These replies give me a lot to think about. Great information!! I appreciate it! :) :) :)

Not that I remember (so it wasn't bothersome). I've been there for business in fall, winter and spring, so not the busiest times of year. Also, the older hotels don't necessarily have air-conditioning, so if you sleep with the windows open, then you will hear street noises ... that's just city life.
